you know for years now Ive been labouring under the missconception that the lever hanging from the side of the steering colum that makes the funny little clicking noise and the little arrow lights light up on the dash in time with the flashing of a set of amber lights on one or the other side of the vehicle was there to let other road users know what I was about to attempt to do. you know little things like merge left or right move out of a car park or complete an over taking manouver.
I think I might have been somewhat mistaken about this....
From today apparently it means the following.. If you see the blinky lights you need to sit right alongside that side of the vehicle and not move from there so long as the lights are blinking.
Based on 9 or 10 occourances today this is the new requirement for actions on observation of amber lights blinking on one side of a vehicle,
If Ive just overtaken you in an 80 zone and have a 10m lead on you and I turn on the left side blinky lights it means you should now immediately accelerate and sit up alongside my pasangers side door. If I then turn it off, give the go pedal a big bootfull when we hit the 100 zone till I get a lead on you again and then turn it on again you should immediately accelerate your vehicle to sit along side me. Keep this up till I give up trying to get past you and slow down so I can sneak in behind you. When I put the blinky light on again slow down to stop me from merging out of the right hand lane.
(and before you ask how do I know I had a lead on you? IF I can see both your headlights in the center rear vision mirror I'm in front)
When we pull up at the lights abuse me for deliberatly driving in such a manner as to fill your car with diesel exhaust fumes.
If I turn on the right hand side blinky lights you must immediately move up along side the drivers side of the vehicle sit there and have your passanger abuse me for thinking about cutting you off. (the passanger thing is optional if you dont happen to have an acne faced skinheaded whiteboy with a white baseball shirt on with the collar up and at least 4 necklaces on and a pair of plastic framed sunglasses handy)
If I slow down + stop with the right side lights on as soon as I start to move again to turn off of the road you must immediately, with as many RPMs and as much wheel spin as possable, pass me on the right hand side causing oncoming traffic to take evasive action if possable.
If Im parralel parked and have moved back turned on the right hand lights and am about to move out you should pull up alongside my vehicle and come to a complete halt. When youve allowed the traffic to back up to the set of lights behind you you should abuse me for not vacating the carpark that you want to take and the speed off as fast as possable through the nearest set of red lights, preferabley with pedestrians crossing.
I think I need a new sign for the back of big red.... (and for the side for the side indicator lights)
Caution, when blinking this vehicle is GOING to move to this side. Driving along side this side of the vehicle will only slightly delay this procedure and will probably be bad for your paint+panel work.
(hey Ron, swap ya, I'll take your ability to purchase faulty stuff for a month or 2 if you take my ability to encounter more than my fair share of morons)

solution:
-take 2lb lumpy
-beat said lumpy into each panel of your 'fender
-(alternatively use trees, rocks, other immovable objects)
-indicate
-start to merge whilst watching other drivers duck for cover
I was amazed when i first drove the 130 (Nowra to Cairns) .... well this old forestry 130 only had one straight panel... the bonnet (which I have "fixed" by dropping accidently. First time I needed to merge, indicator on, and everyone just let me do what I wanted...
very satisfying... other drivers appear to respect a vehicle whose owner places little value in its outside appearance.

I know some people on this board dont like personalised or customer plates BUT.
I noticed from the day I put my plates on the rangies people seemed to want to go out of their way to cut me off or make road life hard for me. Same car, same driver, just a set of number plates was the only difference?![]()

I found my wifes red car was invisible to other traffic. My 130 either gets automatic right of way or they run for cover.
My Datsun 260 coupe from uni always got right of way. Every panel was a different colour, the front was lowered and it had a monster front bumper as I couldn't get a real one. Even trucks and emergency vehicles would stop and give way. I had to put both hands out the window once before an ambulance would cross an intersction in front of me.
Going by the Dave you keep big red to clean and nice. Try getting a bit of bumper bar from something like a Toyota Echo and leave it sticking out from underneath.
