Question What T Flippin Hell r these

Ok you mob, I need a entymologist or sum such.

    What r these?

Should i be concerned? R they native? R they a Bee or a WASP?

There are some nice critters around here. I have a family of Bushstone Curlews in my yard. This is the second lot of chix this season. We have nick named him Clive (Clive da Curlew).

    Cheers,

i was told by the council guy that the best way to get rid of the wasps was to wait until dark (cos there in bed ) and burn them with a blow torch. this works well but since i moved to a wooden house i hit them with mortien outdoor spray in a can. next morning there all dead on the floor. i have seen them here hanging of cobwebs but they latch onto anything. and they sting when you brush past them with the mower as well

They resemble Paper Wasps not a nice beasty thats quite a colony youve got there
I generally wait until night time to get rid of them they seem to be more docile after dusk
My preferred method is a can of cheap fly spray and a lighter
Hold the lighter 15cm from the nozzle light and depress the nozzle (Kaboom)

As Neil said, wait until dark and hit them with the insect spray. The wasps that is. Love the curlews, we have them at our place most of the year as well.

As an aside, Hamilton Island has a large population of Curlews and they make a heck of a blood curdling racket on occasions.

An if u were already a bit unhinged they would cause u all sorts of consternation eh!

It sure kicks up a racket. Kinda like what i imagine a teradactyle would sound like. They crack me up when they do the "if i stand still enuff you won't see me" routine. And u should see what Clive gets up to when he see himself in the sliding door glass.

    Cheers

    Cheers,
I can't help you with the name of a good entomologist, but if your looking for an etymologist, I think Ron would be your best bet.

Like others before, I know them as "Paper Wasps". I don't know their Scientific name, but I still remember being stung by them when I was a kid. They hurt "like buggery".

I found some flying around at my partner's, mother's place (how's that for convolusion?). NOT good with five grandkids under 7yo running around. I eventually found their nest & sprayed it with the standard Mortein. It slowed them down, but after a while I wasn't convinced that they wouldn't recover and so knocked the nest down and gave them all my terminal right boot.

Some days later, I noticed another wasp flying around. OK, I put on my camo gear and found another nest. Someone, in the meantime, had suggested using the longer-lasting outdoor Mortein.

I did that & they dropped QUICKER than flies. Nonetheless, I still knocked down the nest & applied terminal force.

    No more problems received.

    Best Wishes,
