Cars unfortunately are a depreciating asset, they never really make you money, they are a necessity. You never win with cars,... only the Dealerships

if you have a three way transaction You the car dealer and the person who buys your car from him, you have to expect the value to be split between at least 2 of you and 1 of you at least is paying for at elast 2 of you to get something from the deal.

If you want it all cut out the middle man at least once then you gonna have to do the selling yourself except no real saving as your going to be paying the middle man something when you buy from him and pay 2 of them the seller of the car and the middleman.

Why sell accessories on a car to a middleman, accessories arent listed in red book the vehicle in its primal state is listed, your just throwing cream out the window in selling vehicle with accessories to middleman

I don't understand why you people want to deny the basic laws of market capitalism and expect people to do things for no cost or for free.

Look at real estate for very little effort a no brain BMW driving real state agent will cream between 3 and 6% out of your pocket to sell your house and a auctioner (man with big lungs and loud voice and no morals) will take another 1 to 2% for shouting for no more than 15 minutes and those % on an average modest house of $350,000 is lot of BMW travelling.

We live in a free democratic society you can choose to be ripped off or not be ripped off it all depends on how much your willing to go find your own buyer and negotiate a equitable price for yourself.

I bet when your acting as seller you want to have the top premium price for yourself rather than saying l knock 10% off as l am saving on not paying a middle man

Just using this as an example :D, am I missing something? What do you expect? If you want a better price, sell it yaself :). How is that the salesman's fault? How is it different to any other sales transaction? Obviously I have been in sales for many years, albeit have never sold cars, but there has been that stigma in other professions. Of course, any business is out to maximise profit and it is up to the consumer to be "aware". And then all of what cartm58 said :).

As for what is my Disco worth, well $105k new 2 and a bit years ago. If I wanted to sell it today..................well lets just say YIKES:o. Double YIKES due to the lovely marked paintwork and a few dints underneath, I know Im better off keeping it for a long time :). I've looked at selling it, purely as my business has been only going for 18mths and with a 5th child being added to the family would make things easier, but I wouldnt get what I needed, so it stays...unfortunately :cool:,

I think we all understand that the dealership/salesmen all have to earn a living, no problems there.
I'd be the first to admit that it's purely an emotional reaction when a stranger puts a dollar value on your pride and joy, and it's never going to be a favourable dollar value:(:(
But knowing this does'nt make it any easier.....

So the question has to be asked, what is your Disco worth to you?

I paid $8K for my current 1993 Disco V8/auto (Silver) a couple of years ago, I already owned a White 93 Disco when I paid cash for the current Disco (Silver), this Disco (White) was stock except for a Unichip and a 2" lift.
After purchasing the Silver Disco I sold the White Disco for $6K after a while, dropping the price from $8K to $6K.

To me its worth is that I have the 4WD that I want and am as happy as a pig in you know what.
What does the Forum think it is worth.

Philwilde, what year is your disco, if its a 99 D2 then i can understand the 12k trade in but for a 2000 up Disco 12k is an insult.
