Really... at the end of the day it was the LC200 that best acomplished the criteria for Overlanders 4WDOTY.... though thats possibly not what the testers would buy for themselves.
    Exactly.

I do, however, have a problem with the requirement that all vehicles tested must be "new releases".

A new release does not make the vehicle the best. I would like the previous winner to be included in the test. This would demonstrate whether the "new" vehicles' improvements were indeed "improvements".

Alternatively, it would demonstrate whether a new vehicle's improvements were enough to trounce the previous year's winner.

Wouldn't expect everyone to agree with this - but I guess that is what these "contests" are about - simply one man's/woman's opinion. Nothing else.

i think when the D3 won, overlander had a sport as a company loan vehicle that matt raudonikus was driving, he's been in a jeep rubicon lately.
maybe he's got his eyes on a 200 for his next vehicle?
has anyone noticed the full page ad that is on the back of o/l and 4x4 aust/? land rover. that's got to be expensive to have that on there, but it hasn't influenced the decision obviously.

Overlander magazine December 2007 Comparison test page 32 Rubicon, Hummer & land Crusier76 V8 rate the 4 doors Rubicon a better all round vehicle.
Do not go for what the magazines said at the end of the day is business what counts in any game and Toyota & Nissan out sell Land Rover here in Oz.

The "4WD of the decade" comment was the opinion of one of the judges only.

Even the editor of the magazine questions this comment in the editorial at the front of the magazine.

Given the criteria for their award, there probably never was any doubt that the 200 series was going to win. "New releases only" for a start. The RR Sport TDV8 was excluded because it has a speed limited spare tyre.
    Cheers .........

In any 4WD comparo where the criteria includes:

"Value for money" and "Onroad Performance"

Range Rovers and Defender will lose to Toyota. Let's be honest here, there is nothing a $170,000 Range Rover gives you more than a $110,000 200 Series based on overlanders criteria. Yes, the RR is more refined but you will be hard pressed to find "value for money" in the RR when comparing the two.

Same with the Defender, it will forever lose bigtime in the onroad and comfort stakes even to pretenders.

I think Overlander's selection criteria is well thought out .. the problem (for us) is Land Rover's are made for a small market that does not necessarily fit in well with criteria in 4WD comparos. What other manufacturer produce a range of 4WD's all geared towards the high end luxury market?

Dare I say it but the new Defender in 2013(?) will most likely be a luxo barge as well.

Definitely not "all of a sudden", being a crap mag has nothing to do with the 4WDOTY, couldn't care less, IMO the Land Rovers are a better vehicle than the Toyo's.
The first third of the mag is devoted to toy 4wd's, most of which will never be available in Australia, totally irrelevant.
Their Tech articles are not only wrong and misleading, they border on being dangerous and don't ever point that out to them or you will be blocked on their emails. e.g. according to just one article you should use a 3 arm puller to remove the vibtation damper/front pulley from the front of the crankshaft, pity the poor buggers that pulled the outer ring off or loosened it enough to fall off while driving.
Dangerous and incorrect winching techniques, and a Readers Letters of 1 page. Road tests of vehicles not available here and lousy road tests of vehicles that are available, yes definitely a Crap Magazine, Regards Frank.
