long range tanks & landrover warranty

I am looking at putting a replacement and/or aux fuel tank in a 07 defender. I have been told that there is a issue with landrover warranty on the fuel pump with a replacement tank. I have contacted LRA who directed me to the dealer. I have not been able to get a straight answer out of them. Has anyone had any landrover warranty issues with either a replacement or auxiliary tank.

    thanks

simple answer - dont touch the standard tank, just install a aux tank.

I can only see a problem with warranty if it can be proven that the tank contributed to the fuel pump fault.
If the tank is anything like the TD5 Defender, then it really shouldn't be a problem. The pump sits in near the same spot & draws fuel from the same height.

I think the problem arises when the tank is steel costruction and gets rusty, or has debris left over from manufacture. Contaminants will kill the pump.

Mind you, it really depends on the dealer doing the warranty work.

I was the bloke who told RMB3218 about the warranty issue - because I was told by the dealer in Alice Springs that I should have fitted an auxiliary as the fuel pump would not be covered by warranty due to the long range tank I had fitted to the vehicle.

I should add I had absolutely no problem with the dealer in Alice Springs - in fact the service was fantastic. The fuel pump was OK - their statement was just mentioned in passing.

times may have changed since I got my 2000 defender. I only had 2yr/50000km warranty. In 2001 I got a LRA 140L replacement and 65L aux tank installed. Less than one month later while in WA I had warranty work done on fuel lines. they weren't concerned at all about the tanks.

Fuel lines are a bit different to fuel pumps.
