The 2.6 litre six was first offered in the forward control in September 1966.
It was first offered in the 109 in April 1967

The 6 cyl IOE 2.6 litre engine:
    • March 1963 - 2.6 litre available in "Export Market" Series 2a 109" Forward Controls (although a single "Home Market" S2a F/C 2.6 litre production vehicle was produced)
    • September 1966 - Series 2B 110" Forward Control released with 2.6 litre optional engine available to all markets.
    • May 1967 - 2.6 litre engine available in Normal Control 109" models alongside major trim changes, black instrument panel, cable operated windscreen wipers and key start.
    (Date source)

The Forward Control 2.6 had a 4 blade impeller in the water pump the same as the Rover 3 litre while the bonneted control vehicles had an 8 (or 10) bladed impeller with a mounting adapter fitted to the block.

The Land Rovers in the US market had the Westlake head where the ones in Australia had a de-tuned 2.6.

    Cheers

The forward controls all had SU carbies, to determine about the bonnetted control vehicles I will need to check the books later tonight.

You were correct for the series 2B which is the first time the engine was available to all Land Rover markets.

Even in the S2a 109" Forward Control the 2.6 litre was only available 6 months after the 2.25 litre model was released.

BTW. Even the site I am quoting is wrong about the 2.6 litre in the S2B export models. 1360 2.6 litre vehicles can't be wrong (even I have 3 which shouldn't exist) Wouter's page : Series II Forward Control FAQ

    G'day Pat303

If it is about a 67/68 model it could well have an SU carby on it if it was Australian Assembled, as they would have fitted what ever was in stock at the time as the Stromberg was a license built SU

I might be able to trace date the chassis No for you

    cheers
