    Question SEQ Water Restrictions

Combined dam levels are now back over 34%. Somerset dam is nearly up to 80% and there is talk that they are going to start releasing water from it down to Wivenhoe which will further boost the rate of increase there (currently just over 21%).

So when are level 6 water restrictions going to be eased???

Level 3 water restrictions kicked in at 30% combined storage. When this happened I read somewhere that they would be lifted when combined storage passed 40%. So what's the story? Surely we should at least be back to level 4?

With the number of tanks and water saving devices installed coupled with the general public's change in water use habits, I don't believe we can EVER go back to using water at the rate we were before restrictions were introduced.

I am paying a s$%tload for council rates and am a naturally frugal water user and resent being held to restrictions that need not apply. Hells bells, I just want to give the Alfa a rinse clean and I dare not take it to the local car wash.

The doomsayers are reporting that South-East Queensland has had only average rainfall so far this January/February and we are still not out of the woods. Well the historical dam level graphs show that so far we have seen the biggest influx of water since Jan 2004 - much, much more than Jan '04 actually. We are back to where we were then and without any real rain the existing infrastructure has supplied us for FOUR YEARS.

The Traverston Crossing dam (which incidentally would have filled twice over since December last year), Tugun Desalination plant and water pipe grid will be coming on-line over the next few years so what's the drama???

Sorry to be a whinger but I'm just venting a bit because my car is dirty.

I've heard here on the coast they are going to be lifting level 6 water restrictions on the weekend as Hinze is overflowing...will keep ya posted. Not that I really need to do anything with water, pool is brimming, plants/ lawns are like drowned rats, pointless cleaning the cars as we dont have a garage, driveway could do with a hosing off though

    Regards

I vote we stay on L6 longer yet and agree things are looking up. How about a poll on the topic ;-)

I was in Melbourne again at the start of Jan. The government there was thanking people for reducing the average consumption from 800 L/day to 400 in the last year.

Not sure of the latest, but last I heard SEQ was close to hitting 140L/person/day. Leaving the southerners for dead.

Agee that keeping the coast on L6 didn't make sense with Hinze full and flowing into the sea.

I think it's nice the river has a brief chance to live again downstream of the Hinze

They have been releasing water from Somerset for at least the last week. Leave the restrictions in place for now I reckon.

Mate - we have a water tank - it's full - you're welcome to come on over and wash the Alfa! I'll even cook a BBQ and throw on a few beers!

In my opinion we're in this mess because of gardners! In the good times they ran their hoses for hours and hours every week, wasting tens of thousands of litres. Each and every one of them! I know of one retired couple that before water restrictions were using 200KL a quarter.

Now the chips are down I'm still allowed to pour as much water from buckets as I like onto the garden, but I'm not allowed to use 30 litres to wash my car.

I agree with you solmanic. I don't think they should ever allow watering as such. No one sponsors my hobbies. Why should I sponsor theirs? We don't have enough capacity for the people we have here now. So how about we boost that by permanently banning garden watering! If you want to water your yard get a tank.

Until I get elected I've installed a water tank and I can wash the car as much as I like. The fish also like the rainwater too.

Hmm, that's a good offer, but I don't trust just any old tank water on the precious...
