Our bigest water saver --> I work a lot!!! So does the wife!

Short of being home to shower, flushing the loo, and a bowl of H20 for the dog etc... we dont use water

Our grey water goes to the garden, and we really don't have a garden to speak of, just natural red dirt

Mate water conservation is a joke here in Hervey Bay.
recently the council has passed a new law that any new tank over flows have to be connected to the main supply and the water that runs off belongs to the council, that is then sold back to you at the nominal rate, the presumption is that (as one counselor described) "the water that comes from the sky is the property of the council and thus should be collected as such"

whf is with that ? water conservation "my rectum"

Where I live in Brisbane ,we don't have water restrictions . So nothing really. Although since i moved here 15 months ago , I have never watered the garden (as it rains alot anyway, and already have to mow the garden enough already anyway) Well i put a pool cover on but that was to keep cr*p out of the pool, as i am allowed to fill the pool up from the tap anyway. (not that it needs it that much)

So to sum up Not alot

I live in suburban Brisbane.
I have four water tanks.
One for the front garden and car washing, a 3000L with filter, just for drinking water and the kitchen.
Two others, 2500L and 5000L, are linked together to supply the remainder of the house with water.

The mains supply is turned off.

Water from the two washing machines, eco front loader and older Kleenmaid (water guzzler rarely used these days), runs around the house depositing water in various garden areas.

Our front lawn is green all year round

I made no water tank/installation claims on the Pine Rivers Shire, just incase they decided they owned MY water supply.

Yeah thats the point has alway worried me. The goverment does not give you stuff for nothing . There is always a catch

We've done much the same as you.

- 2 x 5000 litre tanks ( enough for a suburban block), with "Rainbank" pump which automatically switches back to mains water if the tanks run dry, or the power goes off.

- Outside taps, laundry and toilets connected to rainwater tanks.

- Showers and washing machine and evep cooler dump divert to a surge tank ( just an old rubbish bin ) with overflow back into the sewer. Tap at bottom allows a hose to be connnected for draining this on to trees etc ( I don't use grey water for veges ).

- other minor easy things like water saving shower heads, front loading washing machine, converted toilets to dual flush etc.

I can't really think of any more we could do - except put in drip irrigation which is on my list - but it certainly has saved our garden this summer and it's great to be able to pull out the pressure washer any time you like and wash down the car.

I claimed the $1000 rebate for our tanks - yes they now know I've got them but I'm happy to take that risk - I reckon if they ever wanted to start charging they'd soon find out who has tanks anyway ( the're not exactly easy to hide !) - meantime their $1000 is sitting in my bank earning 6%

Well. You know what you have to do there don't you.

You have to collect all the "run off" into lots of 44's, and pour it through the council doors and windows, and give them their frigging rain back.

Now you go and obey your council. Off you go.

I no longer wash the Defender - I take it to my local hand car wash to get the outside & underneath done for $25. They have a water management plan (supposedly) and I just clean the inside. To be honest, I can't see myself ever bothering to do it myself when restrictions are lifted. At $25 it's just not wirth my time.

I park the Alfa in the rain when it comes and chamoix it. It hasn't had a thorough wash for 18 months. I don't trust the car wash with it.

I don't water the garden at all. Any waste water from the kitchen just gets tipped on plants.

Used the little 4min shower timer they sent us all in the mail early last year and found I was already only taking about 3min on average. However, whenever possible I shower "with a friend".
