Change of job, need people to bounce the idea off

As far as the security go's its getting rougher around here now , more drugs and more plain dickheads around, shiftwork all the time, boss's that are hopless in every way possible and most of the time a boring job, so Im over it after 6 years. And about the same money as the sales job, just 4 nights of 10hr shift's........

Also they selling about 10 cars per week at the moment without any staff at the Used car area (its 200m away from the main dealership) and the target is at least 3 per week, so I dont thing there is the need for the big sales push or no need to worry to much about pressure from the boss to sell which I was worried about at the start.

The boss just wants someone honest, reliable , loves cars and is happy to talk to people re the cars without "talking ****" (his words), talking down to female drivers and can just help people in general.....and if I get a sale thats a bonus.

Some will say that all used car sales staff are the biggest *****s in the world, but things are differant in the bush (though of course there will always be DH sale's people) as i said before and I get much more respect as a Vol firefighter than I do as a "Rent A Cop", so maybe time for a change.

If the job is dependent on you meeting a "Quota" of sales every week/month then it can become very stressful, esp. in a country town with a limited clientèle, if you can handle the Quota then go for it and good luck, Regards Frank.

A point in favour of the change is that once you are trained and have a track record in retail , you can move freely into almost any retail job . For career development , many organizations promote retail staff into executive management . I know TV companies where the CEO's started in sales .

If you guys can survive on the base dollars then go for it. Take the bonus from each sale as just that. You are an honest, trustworthy bloke who respects others which are qualities valued by potential customers when they step onto the lot.

It'll be a steep learning curve with I imagine a fair bit more paperwork than present so it will keep you engaged and stimulated. Go for it!

So is it the yard on the corner of Sedgewick or Gray?

I think you know what you want to do Amshwaw, the only question that begs to be asked is why did you go in to security? Was there more of a reason then for the money? When did you stop liking it?

After reading lots of your posts before I think you would be a great salesperson because you have genuine interest and will probably will be straight with customers.

Also, with the cash side of things.... When I have done shift work in the past I generally spent more money then when I worked days. Probably partly because of the large amounts of coffee and redbull I bought but I also boght more consumables. Because you are working on a more natural body cycle I think one tends to be happier and spend less..... But I know this is not always the case.

All the best and I hope everything works out. If you decide to quit and sales person does not work I know often there is a big need for security and usually jobs around and not to hard to get especially with experience like your own. So could you go back if you needed too?

Straight up, looks like it is time to move on based on how you view your current position. Many people make plans whilst life passes them by. Sales, I started out in Door to Door Commission only sales 20 odd years ago, toughest job I have ever done, abuse, dogs set onto you, called a religious nut before you even got half way up the driveway, peers looking down their nose.."bloody salesman". What they forget is that the entire economy revolves around sales in one format or another. A baker selling his bread, a plasterer selling his skill, an accountant selling his expertise, a teacher selling children on the ideals of knowledge, a partner selling their lover on why is now a good time for nookie :D and on and on.

Selling is a skill and can take years to develop, combine with knowledge, believing in what you do and upfront honesty and the world is your oyster.

I will more than likely take the job, but its always good to hear things I havent thought of from those who may have been in the same point in there lives in the past.

I dont want to sound up myself but I think I would be good at the job, I enjoy talking to differant people etc but as Pete said there is more paperwork and I have issue's with writing ie very messy due to being almost legely blind until I was 16 and had a cornea graft.:eek: So Im always worried about that, but the rest I have no issue's with, but to be honest I was worried about the target for sales which I asked straight out "what happens when we dont reach it" and the boss said it happens but dont stress about it as most of the time it picks up. I even went as far to say that I hoped that was the case becasue you cant drag people off the street and make them by a car.

The main reason for the change is health reasons and just trying to get back to normal, well as normal as Land Rovers owners can get anyway :p:D So money isnt that important to me but my health and state of mind is. I mean to say I would like to earn 120k per year but with my lack of book work skill I need to be honest with myself and be happy with a average wage,

Thanks again for your help.....Oh I just thought of something.......if a LR gets brought in for a trade in price I can always let everybody know.....

As it turns out I have also got 9 years under my belt working for Coles/Myer, I was 2ic of freash produce for most of that time.......thats why I got into security I know the guys who try and run it.

they are always looking for very honest types of course becasue of the amount of keys & alarm code's we hold ie all banks, schools and 60 odd store's around the area. But the pay doesnt really reflect the responsibity
we bare.......

Hi Pete, How have you been latly?

No its the larger yard in French st next to Beaurepaires. Its a far way from the rest of the dealership, in some ways thats a good thing Im thinking.

Also thankyou for the kind words :redface::angel:, I guess I was brought up right after all ;)

Don't worry too much about the paperwork it isn't that bad. Most dealerships now use a computer based system anyway.

Otheriwse it sn't too bad anyway.

Everybody HATES carsalesmen mainly because they are liars and conmen.
Im sure if you can keep yourself from sinking from those lows you will soon get a real good name for yourself and get customers introducing clients.Good honest carsalesmen are hard to find,when somebody finds one they tell everyone!!!!
Grab the job,if it dont work out try something different!!!!
