Holy Moly, talk about tarring everyone with the same brush, there is good and not so good in any field, I guess it depends on what end of the market one is dealing in. I have bought quite a few cars in my time and never had a problem. I'm not saying there aren't liars and conmen, but those businesses dont tend to last very long,

If you have not done sales before then think carefully. Dealing with tyre kickers and rejection is not easy and not worth $17 hour plus 10% of the profit which may only work out to $50 if the profit is $500 on the sale.

Who do you know who on their death bed said "I wish I had of spent more time at work!" I am pretty sure you know no one who has said that. Why? Because 99% of people loath either their job or having to go to work each day.

If you think a new job will make you happy then unfortunately you are in for a dissappointment.

G'Day TP7,

Ive taken on bourd what you have said and I thank you for it. I guess nobody is happy working, but Ive ben unemployed a a litle while years ago and I almost went around the twist.

At the end of the day I know I need to work but dealing with tyre kickers and getting knockbacks is much better than getting shot at, stabbed and getting threatend all the time and thats just dealing with Vic Police :p

So Im looking at the lesser of two evils.

Good points of new job, (off the top of my head & how I see it)
Chance to earn a little more to help pay off the house.
Work days so health will be better.
Will be able to go to club meetings & more family time.
Get training in another job
Work for a boss with a little drive and vision.
Sleeping during the night and not a few hours at a time during the day.

Bad points re new job.
Hope the boss does the right thing by me re commision.
Will take a while to get back to working days.
Paperwork.
Working some Saturday mornings (but at least I will get paid for it)
Being a bit scared if I can do the job.

Thats about it as Im still half asleep, so off to bed again a bit later for another few hours sleep.

I'm not. That's why I don't apply for promotion. I'm happy in semi-retitrement here at work.

Hmm, that's not always the case. If you google John Hughes in Perth, WA, you'll see that he's built a huge business in the car trade, and he's got an excellent reputation simply due to the trust and relationships that he has built up with repeat customers.

His staff are trained not to deceive customers but to earn their trust.

Sure, I've met some dodgy sales people, but some people are really quite honest and want to earn your repeat business.

Holy Crap !!!!!!!

Been in carsales for a fair while and I have worked with heaps of different salesman, have to say I have never met anyone who fits the quoted description... Its not 1980,,, those days and types of salesman are gone!

its a great job if you are in the right yard with the right management and can be very rewarding. Most guys I know sell between 12 and 15 cars a month and If you can sell 12 a month you should earn $70K plus. you will probably find you get fuel with the car.

You just have to get over people walking through the gate already not liking you, and you will find that the people who think you are a conman (which does happen) are generally unrealistic people who have no idea,,for eg. I had a guy in yesterday who called me every name under the sun because i offered him $8000 for his 400,000klm 91 model rust bucket landcruiser which he believed to be worth $17,000. its these idiots you have to get used to,,(they generally drive 80 series).
but on the whole great job heaps of fun,,,, big bludge..

I actually bought a XC panelvan,351 4speedGS, secondhand from John Hughes when I was 19 or so.Hell of a nice bloke.He was working for Titan Ford in Melville at the time,he had just gone bust and was back working for the opposition to earn a crust.Eventually he got back up where he is today.
Carsalesmen you will find are the most disrespected people in the world.
As I said in my post,get a good name for yourself,your customers appreciate a "GOOD GUY" and will send so many people your way.

i dont know if amshaw took his offer or not, but after a short interview with the dealer principal on tuesday last week, i gave notice at work on monday morning, and i start monday next week :-D

I have to agree, when i bought my disco 18 months ago from a large city based ford dealer, the salesman couldnht have been more laid back and honest. The car had only just been traded in and was "as it was recieved condition", it was dark and he just handed me the keys and said take it for a spin and when i got back he said if you want to you can have it over night to show the missus. Of course once i had driven it to/from work and read thru the owners manual with full service history and signed on the dotted line when i took it back, he even gave me a drive away deal.
As said previously you go to a dingy back street dealer then you should expect to get an Arthur Daly type dealer.

Well done bud, your braver than I, Ive been kicking it over for a while now :angel:, keep in touch Im interested to see how you go. Do you mind if I ask what your old job was?

Ive started 6 weeks holiday today , so I will spend a few days "on the job" and see how it go's, if I dont like it I will return to my old job, but i cant see any real reason ay this point why I wouldent take the new job........;)
