In this system volume was paramount. These company stores usually worked on a quota of 20-22 new cars per month each salesperson. The salesperson with the lowest figures each month would be carpeted and told they would be sacked if no improvement. Sometimes the lowest performer was sacked anyway as an example to the others. Anyone below quota for say three months was regarded as "stale" or "gone bad" and sacked.
Hi Brian, Thanks for the input. I went through all that stuff way back when he first offerd the job. I know you wont beleave me but the boss is very trust worthy and I have no issue thinking he will do the right thing, in fact he told how much I will be getting plus my wages for the three days.......All while on holidays from my other job

In fact I thought he was going to give me a hug when I gave him the thumbs up for the first sale...... , he even bought me a few beers on Thursday night to celebrate.........

Also thanks to everybody else for your comments, I must say the days went very fast and I didnt think it was work at all, sounds stupid I know but I loved it, fitted like a glove you might say.

I thought I wasnt going to be payed for the few days I was planning being there becasue I was just trying on the job for size, I didnt worrie about it as I didnt think I was going to be doing much & on holidays anyway, but as it turned out the other two salesmen were of sick (one sick with a bad fly and the other in for an miner op), so it was just the boss and myself to run the whole show. So as the boss said I was "dropped in the deep end big time" and told others in the dealership (which got back to me) that I was swimming no probs at all and he was very happy with me .

So after "doing the job" for real not just sitting around watching I asked him point blank if I was going to be paid for my time here and he said "of course, you have worked your **** off" ! I didnt think I had but anyway, if he thinks that well and good

I was kept busy moving cars around, getting issues sorted ie dead batterys, broken anntennas replaced, rego stickes onto cars, more paperwork, cars washed and all the other stuff that hasent been done for the past few months and of course talking to people re cars we have or giving me an idea what there looking for.........but it was great , really enjoyed it, in fact I was thinking about asking the boss for the keys so I can clean up the office a tad and start the cars for the hell of it as they wont be started for a few days etc......Im not really doing anything over the weekend anyway, said but true.......I wish this job was offerd 5-6 years ago........

Oh and another good point is the used cars yard is about 200m from the main dealership and workshop, so I can do my own thing without anybody hanging around in the way and I can stay out of the BS between sales and service dept etc........long story

Go for it...... i know what the Security industry is like and i worked at the top end of it.... you can find a better job.

As for a Used car sales man...... use it as a stepping stone....

Most people dont trust Car salesman, Real estate agents and pollies.... and in that order.....

As your in Rural Vic, what about a Farm hand... you will get fit and the $$$ is not that bad....

    Edited....
Suppose i should have read the whole post....
Good luck with it all.... but if you find your being stereo typed... then bail..... unless you like it...

Thanks for the input clarkey but Im a tad old for a farm hand at 38 and I would rather stick at security than heading out to a farm .

Its happend already when people come onto the lot and are all ready to "Take on the salesman", but after a very short time they relise that Im not like that, easy to talk to and no crap..... has worked a treat so far, but I do know what you mean bud, so far so good........ Plus I like the challange of changing people's stereo type ideas etc..... becasue I really hate sleasy salesmen too that are full of bs, so thats why Im differant.....the new breed maybe......

Security got me away from Coles/Myer so its served its perpose, but its a thankless, boring job, risky, full of crap/BS and no way I would buy into a company etc its just crap alround. so better to get out while I can.

Also I think Im wasted doing it, like sound cocky but I have skills to offer and need/like to learn more along the way, learn anything will do......

I may be only 38 but Im an old 38 ......bung knee, and the back isnt as good as it once was......so farm work would bore me and more than likely kill me.......

Well I've read all the posts and all I can say is good luck with the new position Andrew, you really agonised over making the move but you seem to have the right attitude to make a success of it.

    G'Day All,

Just letting you all know that things are still kicking along "just fine and Dandy" at the mo........

Eventhough things have been very quiet for the past week and a 1/2 the car sales count is upto 35

Ive now been there 10 weeks or so still loving it and Ive fitted in very well with all but two people there , but Im slowly winning them over with my wit & charm I know, I know just joking .

Being a smart **** does help a tad, but havent had any big issue's with clients with warranty claims or anything else exept for a couple bought a VY SS ute off us and two weeks in the CD stacker died. but of course it isnt covered but I worked out a deal so we would pay half each, so once again everybody is happy

Over the time Ive been there I have had some great days, best so far was four cars in one day but of course it has slacknd of a tad now but still doing heaps of test drives (six yesterday) and quotes going out but most people are being very careful at the mo. Ive found that most peole go away to thik about the deal and all come back on the same day to sign up instead of in dribs and drabs etc

Anyway enough about me, just thought you may have wonderd whats being going on.

    Stay safe

    HI sprint,
So you took the plunge to hay? From memory you were looking at moving on from your last job?

No stress for me or the boss for that matter, the boss buys a slab on Firdays for after work. He said Friday morning that if I didnt sell four for the day I cant have a beer on him Friday after work. Of course he was joking and I had a beer anyway, but of course he would like me to sell four a day (so would I) but he knows better and lives in the real world.......

We always meet Holden new car sales target (boss hasent missed one in over nine years ), they are always around the 30+ per month........but Ive only sold one new and that was to a family member however Im happy where Iam in used, much less stress trying to get the best price as it seems everybody shops around alot when buying new, well I know I did when we got our RA Rodeo C/cab ....ummm for the wife
