We live on property and the snakes are definitely on the move. Only the other day I lifted a log to find a red belly there. If I recognize the snake as a python then Ill leave it alone.
its also a fallacy to say if you have red belly blacks you don't have Browns. Its been proven the two will cohabit-ate together.

Can anyone confirm if snakes are terrortorial?Normally i have only ever seen 1 in any area until recently.

I've recently done a few trips one of which was a fishing trip on the Mitchell River in Gippsland and that place is rotten with tigers. In one particular area without turning my head in managed to spot 4 very scary looking tiger snakes. Also saw a huge Brown must of been at least 5 foot long.Appeared to be no shortage of food a they all looked very well fed.

We also went to Deniliquin and stayed on a property and i must say that around those irrigation channels at times it looked liked the ground was moving.I have never seen anything like it..Tigers snakes galore and even more tigers....I asked my mate who lived on the property what they did about them and his reply was leave them alone unless they try and get in the back door then they cop a very large dose of rat shot...he did go onto tell me that he has had plenty try and come inside but i wasnt sure if he was winding me up.

Philip Island has a huge Tiger snake population also, most of which is on the Bass Strait side of the island....i guess they get a good diet of Mutton bird and Penguin!!!!..

Would i run over a snake only if i couldnt avoid it.

A dugout!!!!!! Isn't that a type of native canoe I have seen them glide silently across the water, but have never seen one rear up.

I'd never seen one do it before (or since) either. Must have been really riled up about something already.

It took me by surprise so much that I hit it. I didn't stop to see if it was OK. I wasn't feeling brave that day!

Come on Jamo you should have stopped and given it the kiss of life.
Rare, but snakes will do it, I have seen blacks, tigers and browns do it, but normally after being very annoyed. Usually after someone running them over.

Since moving in to the old homested last nov, the snake count is 5 browns and one huge tiger. Had to get a box of 4s as the SGs I arived with chopped the place up, saw a red belly black in the river today, no problem with him or her being down there.
I grew up in coastal swamp country east of esperance, where the house yard would attract tigers on mass every summer. Ok in the bush but not under your feet at home.
