So this has probably been asked before....

and I apologise to those on the WA forum as they will have seen this already.

My wife and I are thinking about the possibility of seeing if we can buy an old land rover or range rover from someone locally who seems to have any number of old cars dumped in their garden to work on as a project car.

If we get one of these it will need a complete strip and rebuild to get it to a reasonable level and this will take time and money. It will become a weekend or ocassional toy rather than a daily driver so I want to give it a bit of grunt and ability so it will probably be new engine and running gear as well as lift kits, etc, etc.

Given that I am thinking ford, holden or lexus V8 power has anyone done this in an old range rover or land rover and do they have any helpful comments. I know that overfinch used to drop in the small block 5.0 or 5.7 chevy lump which sounds like fun but I like the idea of a lexus lump for something unusual. That and the fact it can be tuned pretty well.

I will await the flaming shortly.

    Forget Lexus...

Source yourself a VH45DE, made by Nissan (Infiniti).

    Its a NA V8, with 305hp.

I have one in my other car, an Infiniti Q45, and I love it to bits, its an extremely over-engineered engine, but very reliable and very hardy.

There are lots of 240Z's in the USA who have fitted these engines too.
