    A citive C ornering E hancement.

When you go around a corner to the left and lean ( you and the car) to the right, a little hydraulic system compensates and pushes up on the right hand side . So you go around corners like it was 'on tram tracks' as the saying goes.
(Of course, you D2 owners with ACE, feel free to expand on this)

You have pretty much pegged it, except o say it also disconnects the swaybars in low range, allowing better articulation.

    Active Cornering Enhancement

the ACE models have a double fluid reservior, one is for the ACE the other the power steering.
Look under the right front gaurd, the hydraulic ram is very obvious.

The hydraulic cylinders are attached to the front and rear sway bar when you go around a corner above 50km/h the cylinder pushes on the sway bar to reduce the body roll. Now for the bad point, half the discos fitted with this have a pump noise when cornering.

I think the cost would outweigh the benefit

ACE unlocks the bars at less than 3kph, not when low range is in use (its ecu doesn't get to know that low range is in use).

It operates at all speeds above 3kph.

At speeds up to 40pkh it will partially unlock the bars to stop the vehicle from rocking and to help smooth the ride on rough roads, and will lock the bars on significant side slopes to help prevent roll-over.

It allows more articulation than fixed bars when diagonally crossing trenches due to its fluid being able to pass between the front and rear actuators (rams) without ecu intervention.

It normally locks the bars in reverse but this can be prevented by removing the reverse signal wire from the ACE ecu's plug. If you don't like the 3kph limit for bars-unlocked or the 40kph limit for rough road handling then you can always build yourself a speed signal generator to tell ACE what speed you want ACE to think you are doing.
