Anyway I finally got it fixed under warranty - there was a short etc in the system (apparently whoever did the original instal was a biut of a butcher) which shared the pwoer circuit with the air con ? Anyway this probably helped reduce the cost to me of fixing the air con which they had to pull out anyway to get to the other thing, so now a new thermostat (the cheaper after market one of course ! I wasnt about to pay $600+ for a real one) and I have workling wipers AND air con. Me happy.
