Drop down is hard to beat in most circumstances!!
I kinda with I had one, I just have the scooped tailgate that is fixed. A pain at times because you have to lift heavy things over it!

Just bought a SIIA LWB cheap and it has the drop down tail gate, the boys SIII SWB has the swing style with the tyre on the swing. I know it comes down to personal choice (where else does the spare go anyhow?) but what do others prefer, I like to plant my **** on some thing when I want anot stand or sit in the car itself?? What are your thoughts ???

Ps It also comes with the holden six conversion still bolted up to gearbox The gearbox and FWH is what I wanted off of it. The rest of it is in pretty good nick.

I have replaced my tailgate with the barn door . means another spot for the spare wheel and as Phoenix said i won't have the pain of the tailgate getting in the way of lifting things into the back.

Back in the early 1970's there were a couple of guys who worked for Land Rover Special Products and were on a year off driving around the world. The vehicle they brought out was a LHD Series 3 1 Ton prototype (although it had the 2a metal dash and also a Scottorn Bushmaster powered trailer).
One interesting thing about ther rear door on this vehicle was a 3/4 barn door and a 1/2 height tailgate with all the standard drop down fittings. I thought it was a great idea.
Being a prototype vehicle it is difficult to know whether it was a standard part of a modified part for trial. The vehicle and trailer remained in Oz after they returned to the U.K. but now seem to be lost.

The vast majority of Series Landrovers (except wagons) sold in Australia had drop down tailgates. They are more suitable if you want to change body styles (soft top, ute) and have the advantage that you can drive with them open - and they support your long items. Standard spot for the spare on lwbs is on the side just behind the bulkhead.
That said, it is a personal choice.
