it basically means designed by a stylist in japan / china / malaysia and the guy that designed it was probably an industrial designer graduated from a 'european' university..

to sum up.. it means ugly

occasionally the eastern cars have a nice look... but not very often

I think they try to use that catch phrase to sell crap, stick some stainless steel in your kitchen and hey presto its European ! They forget though that most " European kitchens/ bathrooms /laundries etc are tiny poky little crevices. I would never buy anything based on if it was European styled or not.

It means that it is the designer's best effort to copy the style used by designers in Europe, designing a car for cold climates where every effort is made to make use of the maximum solar heating effect, often complemented by painting it black. Generally means that it is completely unsuitable for Australia.

I guess a lot of people are swayed by "European Styling" as these cars are flying off the shelves... or is it the "Asian Pricing" !




I reckon maybe european styling cues relate to the conventions that instrumentation and other equipment follows... like the 0 - 1/2 - 1 for fuel gauges - as on the continent F and E are okay for English speaking nations but not many other places - same goes for the H and C.

The fuel gauge in my 200Tdi had 0 - 1/2 - 1. The 300Tdi has F and E. It also had the brake symbol but the 300Tdi says "BRAKE". Does that mean early Disco's are "european styled"?

In Ford's case I'm pretty sure that had some design directives, to gain a "world look & feel" to FoMoCo products everywhere.

Mitsubishi were certainly ordered to graft that stupid nose of the last of the Magnas.

Porsche has or had a design office in California - does that count as European?

Lotus has a huge consultancy business, all design & r&d for other manufacturers. Or they dis before the Malaysians took over.

Nissan have Renault input..

Hard to tell really these days! Except Defender - you've got ask whether they look at things from a customer's point of view sometimes!
