Land Rover lost the Australian market to Toyota by LR's refusal to produce a vehicle that had a decent highway cruising speed, by their refusal to fix glaring faults, and by their paternal pommie arrogance in refusing to even admit there were problems, or areas requiring simple improvement, or refusing to acknowledge that colonials might even have some idea what was wrong.
This attitude of "we make what we can make, or want to make, and you have to sell it even if the customers don't want it" was what sunk the British motor cycle industry first, then the truck industry, followed by most of their car industry.
All emotions and rot aside, its an excellent vehicle.
It comes in a range of colours and accessories, and all doors actually open when on display.
It also has an engine with power and torque outputs we wouldn't mind:).
Credit where it is due - it might not be everyone's cup of tea but it does what its been developed to do:o.
MAKE NO MISTAKE THOUGH - the 200 series is an abomination and shall surely be put to death!

Another big selling point for toyota is it had John Laws behind it . Flogging it like a dead horse .Plus i don't think land rover advertise nowhere as much as toyota does on the TV . what land rover needs is a young advertising group to make adds like the pajero adds and pathfinder adds. land rover is a bit lame in this department ;):).
Land Rover has that ad on tv at the moment which is selling the Discovery as 3 cars in one. Very upmarket looking.
Don't think I've seen an ad for the Freelander, Range Rover or Defender.
Yes there was a Range Rover sport one a while back, mostly the RRS in glamour bling bling urban poses. - but hey - if Land Rover enthusiasts can't remember it it was pretty ineffectual wasn't it?Quote:
