    The spirit of landrover (not).

    Picture the scene.

A peaceful Tasmanian bush camping area, just behind the sand dunes. It is about midnight. We are asleep, but are woken up by a muffler challenged vehicle racing around the dunes and lots of yahooing and swearing.

This goes on for about half an hour, then the noise changes, the engine note and the swearing both rise in pitch and volume. The are bogged - good!

My wife told me not to help them, but I couldn't stand the swearing any longer -especially for the sake of the little kids in the camping area.

I hopped in my Defender and soon found them, with their lesser breed 4WD tray top well down in the sand. "Can you blanking well help us get this blank of a blanking blank out of this blanking sand? I told them I would on the conditions (1.) That they stop swearing immediately and (2.) they clear out.

After hooking them up I pulled them out at a rate that only an angry Defender owner could, and I didn't stop. I towed them right out of the dunes with the ute helplessly fishtailing behind me. The ute finished up with a graceful curve like a waterskier, just missing the campground dunny.

    I pointed to my defender
"That" I said "Is a proper four wheel drive." "Now blank off!"

Bit hard at midnight, anyway it was just one of those things you do on the spur of the moment. I was cranky because I had my beauty sleep disturbed.

Afterwards you say to yourself "Did I really do that?" or "Why did I do that?" It really was a bit stupid fronting three drunken louts by myself, but I got away with it.

(but it would have made a great YouTube video)

It's a pity your beast didn't induce some serious chassis damage in the other vehicle during the recovery
