    rust?

Hi Guys just been to look at a very ropey (albeit very cheap) disco II td5 (7 seater with ace i think and sls, full service (ish) + auto) looks like its had a bump that has pushed the bonnet back a touch.

strange thing is that all around the bonnet mount its rusty? is this a common thing? there are a few bits of rust all over... just surface tho... rather than real good paint peeling bubble rust like round the bonnet hinge mounts..

    it also needs 5 tyres....

    thanks

    Steve

We never see rusty ones.... don't see a lot of water either .

I would think if it is showing signs of body rust it has had a very hard life indeed.

valid comments... but is too high up for that... as the main rust is right at the top in a sheltered spot... only thing i can see may happen is the water runs off the roof down over it somehow (like i say its very sheltered)

im wondering if its an ex uk car? maybe it was imported at some point..

looks like it hasnt been cared for much but as a second motor given the price its still 'buyable' if you know what i mean?

    Thanks

    Steve

It could be just due to being stored in the open, water and dirt get trapped in one area causing surface rust ?

Given that you are in WA, it might have been industrial fallout.

Any contact with uranium or rainfall containing uranium can cause a dark coloured rust to form.

Where abouts in WA do you get industrial fallout containing uranium?

Is this rust detectable with a Gieger counter?

The Uk ones dont really rust either to be honest. Not there anyway!

could it have missed painting or treatment maybe

or has the acident damaged the paint ages ago allowing the rust
