4x4 Australian review of the Disco Vs the toymotor

If I read correct the Disco walks over the 200 series has any body read the article what's the take

what's the with the KDSS rubbish wasn't that system on the disco 2 almost a decade ago

    from my take

D3 HSE is cheaper, GMV is similar, Disco cargo space is better, Third row seats in the Disco are more practical, LC200 has a rear diff, but the traction control aids make that redundant so D3 again its less thirsty, and better gear box

so what's the hype so to speak about 200 series LC its a glorified 100 series

    of coarse we all agree

I'm surprised at the number of new LC200's already getting round Kalgoorlie.

Considering that the "base" model is now the GXL starting at $69,990 for the petrol and add $10K to that for the diesel - I think Southern LandRover of Perth may have made an error in judgement by shutting down the local LR dealership up here. People (especially the mining companies) will buy Landcruisers up here simply because there is no serious local competition. Yes - there is the Nissan dealership, but other than private buyers and gov't departments, nobody is touching the Patrol diesel since they dropped the 4.2 six.

Everyone I've spoken to says that, for the money, they'd buy either a Disco or a Range Rover any day. I'm starting to see quite a few D3's and a couple of RR Sports getting around. Was also a very nice looking black RR Vogue in the main street yesterday.

Without doubt, the worst 4WD that I've ever had was a 100 series (company vehicle). I was glad to get out of this and into a Prado. The new 200 series would want to be a huge improvement over its predecessor to be competitive. Personally, I couldn't be bothered even looking at one.

I think that it boils down to advertisement. LC in the past have had the reputation of reliability which new car owners buy. (does Landrover not have the highest % of vehicles built still being driven?). I personally think they are over priced for what they are worth, (they add 10k onto the price for thename badges) I agree that LR made a mistake by pulling their dealerships out of the country areas.

Brian, Land Rover is committing suicide by closing dealerships, some friends noticed I had a Land Rover and asked what I thought of the new models (all) and I said they were probably the most capable 4wd available in Australia. But because they are friends and only know that you put fuel in the hole at the back and would have to rely on L/R Dealers to look after their vehicle I advised they don't buy a L/R but look at 4wd's that have service facilitys a bit closer than 200klms away (and a lot further away over your way). As a test I went to every (other make Kia, Holden, Nissan and Toyota) dealer and mechanical workshop in town and asked would they service and repair a L/R, everyone said, "We dont work on Land Rovers here", so how could you recommend to a friend that has no Mechanical know how to buy a Land Rover.
Your little Camper looks the go, hope to see it in person one day, did you get the pics I sent of mine, BTW I'm glad you have a cool side in your Shed, 44 degrees is certainly a relief from the 48 degrees on the other side, LOL, Regards Frank.

It's a bit like the reason MMAL went under. The original Magna's were rubbish and those who owned one would never buy another.

Land Rovers have always been perceived as unreliable and leak oil.

Toyota's have had a good reputation, so far.

It is only those of us who know what a Land Rover really is, who stick with them.
