Carers Payment to be axed.
Although I am resigned to the political outcome as the group effected negatively are the most vulnerable and least able to voice protest so likeliest to be selected first for the chop, if you have a moment and feel inclined please vote to support the Carers.
You wouldn't believe what most of these folks do unseen for this society.

it seems a bit of a beat up.
The current $1600 dollar payment is reviewed annually at each federal budget. The current Government is looking at changing the payment delivery and will make it's decision at the next budget.
The uncertainty of the payment was always there, it is just a bit larger at the moment.
It is unreasonable to keep people who depend on these benefits hanging and has been that way for a while.
Why isn't this money allocated in a standard carers allowance that is not subject to annual review??

Well at this stage it appears it may be reduced or become part of a utilities allowance, either way it's bloody unfair to have this type of speculation about when those affected depend on every cent
If anything it should increase along with external support - i don't know how they do it, they just do.
For what it's worth (Channel nine
) here's a vote on your side.
All the best.

I can't even believe people voted "no" on this. And so many of them!
These people have a hard enough time as it is and they do a lot of valuable work. Without them we as a society would be in a much worse place. The truth of the matter is that the $1600 doesn't even go to the carer as most of the time the ill person needs to have something payed for or a debt payed off.
Frankly I think the carer should get more then they do anyway.
and I agree with another comment on this thread about these folks needing some certainty. It is not worth putting carers through all this concern.

Well, it has been a main topic on Sunday morning tv, so I am thankful that enough people are concerned in our busy society.
The main issue for these people is getting a realistic increase on their regular payments. While it has been so long since they have been increased, last year alone living costs went up 100 bucks a week.(Independant Study result)
They are budgeting four years ahead, putting money aside for the next dentist bill.
They also need dramatic improvements in preventative therapy access.
Hitting the pool twice a week will save the country billions in healthcare costs in the future, but the government insists on "Funding" going out to private 'care' organizations that
a) seem to spend more funds on material assets increasing their corporate worth
b) Charge 23 bucks for a 3:50 visit making it unaffordable
c) Simply don't offer the service claiming not enough funding/staff.
This allows my letters to appropriate ministers to be answered thus
"We are no longer responsible as we have provided funding to outsourced corporations. Please direct all queries and complaints to them"
