Leather seats or not leather seats

This is an interesting thread. I've not had leather so can't really comment. However some cars with leather seats I have been in I have sweated and stuck to the seats, and others I have not. Must be a bit like there is leather and than there's leather. All comes back to the quality of the leather in other words.

Especially agree if you have kids (as said here), the 300ml of chocolate milkshake was a snip to remove on Sunday. ;)

you might be talking vinyl :) that looked like leather
the old holdens were notorious for it.
never had a "sticking" problem with the grey leather in my Disco.

Had both, currently have cloth in the D2, should've gone leather:(

Better for everything. If your concerned about filth, mud or oil, go leather and a set of decent quality seat covers. ;)

Climate control. That means buying a make other than Land Rover or getting a decent after-market a/c system to replace the one designed for 20 degree days in the Northern European summers.

Doesn't change the fact that leather will give you a nasty burn if you put bare or lightly clothed flesh on leather left in the sun.

Have you ever been in a Land Rover with factory fitted leather seats?

You would be looking late Disco I, Disco II, soft dash Rangie Classic, P38 Rangie, LM322 Rangie, Rangie Sport, Disco 3, new Freelander.

All with very effective A/C / climate control systems more than capable of coping with Australian weather conditions.

Aussie built cars for years and years had vinyl covered seats and no A/C, but we seemed to cope OK.

now im a sweaty kinda chap at the coolest of times (nice image eh) i have cloth in mine, cause im cheap and bought the disco based on price,

however as has already been stated leather has advantages and disadvantages

adv

• looks great
• easy to clean
• hard wearing
• smells great
• great if you have kids (see easy to clean)

dis adv (for me at any rate)

• hot if dark colour
• make me sweat (and yes leather not vinyl!)
• slippy when going round corners

my favourite combo? Half leather, cloth base, back and headrest (ie just centre section of seat, leather everything else including side bollard sections of seat. stops me sweating, looks great and supports me well... only problem is that i havent see any on landies :D

I have black leather seats, yes they obviously get hot on a hot day, but they also cool down quickly with Climate control on, mine really does get cold very quick, my wife has a new Ford Focus, now that has rubbish air con..my Kombi on the other hand...no air-con, no power steering, vinyl seats....now thats a nice combo for a hot day!
