Or alternatively, why don't you only read posts that interest you & are relevant to your interest ...

Maybe you should only read the sections relevant to building, rebuilding, shimming swivel houses etc, as that appears to be the extent of your interest.

I don't find it plain ignorant, I think people should lighten up & enjoy life.

I entertain myself all the time, I read, do archery, geo-caching, work on my SIII, go to the cricket, watch movies, do four wheel driving, (& post pictures of the trips when we've got some), knit, sew, cook gourmet meals, go to the beach, do crosswords, gardening, entertain, have a laugh, share jokes with likeminded entertaining people, oh yes, this is on top of being up at 4:45 to go to work & getting home at 6:30 5 days a week & doing housework, washing, ironing, etc. So, yea, I actually have a life & enjoy it.

If that's your opinion, then maybe half the posts on this forum should be deleted.

What is funny & entertaining to some, may not be to others. Not everyone is the same, that's the beauty of life. So get over it & only look at posts you're interested in.

I personally think it's very sad that people get so upset because someone puts a post on, in good faith, which some people found amusing, only to be made to feel like an absolute prat.

    Life is way too short.

I think there's big differences between general chit chat and a page of Nigerian scam email that anyone who's been on the Internet for any period of time will have seen many times and already be so heartily sick of they won't even bother looking beyond the subject line as it gets filtered to the Junk Email folder. To then have the second post non-selectively quote the whole thing needlessly a second time doesn't help.

Now, was that just cause for the reaction of the person who has since left? No, in my opinion. Sounds to me like there was more to that, and this was just an over reaction caused by whatever else may be going on in his life...but that's his business. He's still a loss to the forum however.

What's annoying is this is the second person in a few months who has left over silliness on here, and whilst the previous member thankfully came back, it was still a loss to the forum while he was gone. If valued members continue to go, and all that is left is endless crap from people who don't also add value, then it doesn't take a genius to work out the eventual result.

Oh, and if anyone is genuinely interested in scam emails, please let me have an email address for you, and I'll set up an auto-forward rule, as I have thousands of them I'd be happy to share.

I get your point Jeff, maybe I found it so amusing because I never get scam emails.

I also think it's very sad that Tombraider has chosen to leave, he obviously gave a great deal to this forum.

However, I still think everyone seems too sensitive & overreacts to the most insignificant issues. I also get the impression some people relish it so they can start an argument. I personally don't see it as such a big deal. If people don't like the content, they shouldn't read it. That's the beauty of being able to put the cursor over the original post, so you get an idea of what it's about. And even if that fails, & you open it & don't like it, why on earth would you still read it?

I once again reiterate. If you were with a group of people sitting around the campfire & someone started talking about something that didn't interest you, would you immediately go off the deep end & start being nastly, or worse still, abusive? I would hope not. You would say that it didn't interest you, you disagreed with their opinion etc, then either change the subject or move to a group of people that you did enjoy talking too.

I agree - that's what I meant by silliness. Everything from posting utter garbage, to childish bickering even my 10 year old daughter is too mature for, through to downright nastiness and personal insults.

I wasn't having a dig at anyone in particular (Though some could do with learning how to quote selectively at times!) but merely expressing frustration at a few recent events on here. For the first time on this forum, my ignore list is going to see some additions, and that's sad. With all the forums I'm on, I've only got a couple of (genuinely immature and annoying) people from one shooting forum added to date!

I don't think I could have written it any better than Panda, but on the same token I don't see it as sad either. In fact I see it as positive. Look at how many people on the forum, from all walks of life, 4000+ and only a few..lets face it minor issues at times. You can get more hassles in a get together of a family . Like anything in life it is a choice, a choice to read a thread, a choice to post on a thread, a choice to leave yourself open to others thoughts and opinions....all choice. What you do not have choice about it what sort of response you may get. A response maybe determined on the persons frame of mind, how their day has been etc. Forum "writing" is more intellectual as half of what you say is coming straight from the brain to a computer screen. Face to face, your mouth tends to get in the way, hence why I find most peoples content interesting as it gives a small insight into how the person ticks.

Im sure some people have formed opinions on myself based on some of my responses, and like many may find the opinion they have would be different to meeting the person in real life. Why? Because, for me anyway on some of the more interesting subject content that arises on here, I will debate...discuss....give opinion on moreso than if I really was around a campfire. Around a campfire I'm more likely hunting down my next cold one and talking about the adventures of the day etc etc,

    Regards

    Stevo

I think Tombraider is chucking out the baby with the bathwater here. We all have dummy spits. I had mine a few weeks ago over some thoughtless comments made about one of my replies to a post that I found offensive. I simply avoid general chat. I only looked at this one from the main page as I thought it a technical issue.
There is great value elsewhere in this site.

Stevo, your post was very enlighting. Interesting the difference between posting on a forum & chatting round a campfire.

My campfire chat has been similar, by the end of the day driving normally fairly challenging tracks, you tend to sit around, have a few drinks & talk about the day's event. But generally speaking, I've found towards the end of the evening, all sorts of topics get discussed, anything from politics, religion, sex, work, etc, including new topics such as aborigines, (e.g. the "sorry" campaign), immigration, & all the trials & tribulations that go the various topics discussed. Tops off a great day to broaden one's views.

I still think it's sad - sad in a broad sense that life in general has come to what it has - & it's only going to get worse. I'm a great believer in freedom of speech & people being able to voice their opinions, without the ridiculous repercussions of people being so self opinionated & seemingly unable to accept other people's views without getting in a tissy.

There is nothing wrong with a good debate, in fact it is very healthy, gets the brain cells working & gives people the opportunity to think & recognise other people's views & opinions. Also forms new friendships as it gives you an opportunity to suss out other people & what you may or may not have in common.
