Worrying! 
Looks like the key must have the correct grooves to start with. If they do, then they're in. 
Only options are:
Security chains on doors.
Movement sensors and lighting/alarms.
A very big/well trained dog 
Cricket bat
capsicum spray
tazer
shot gun
now I'm getting silly.....

It's been around for years - basically all's you need is a blank key, filed a little skinny and with saw-tooth ridges where your normal key ridge should be.
My brother's a copper, and they reckon about 80% of "picked" locks are actually bumped.
