    Bush walk in SE Qld

    Distinguished Collegues,

As Kat and I are "staying in" over the Easter period, so to speak, we decided to head down to Cunningham's Gap near Warwick and go for a bush walk to Gap Creek Falls. This is about 10km walk but the track is fairly overgrown in part so it took some time to complete. Kat was snapping away with the Nikon so I thought I'd share our Easter Sunday with you all - here we (well, me) are heading into the rainforest section of the trek...

The trek moves through varied vegetation, from sclerophyll to rainforest and probably things in between....

Being a Geologist/Geophysicist, I find the terrain interesting too - basically, the area is part of the scenic rim which is a series of ancient volcanos. The next pic is looking (through the hazy conditions) toward Mt Alford...

After about 2.5 hours we found the end of the trail at Gap Creek Falls - here we are coming up to the head ....

Kat and I were pretty hungry by now - so we devoured a couple of sandwiches and Hot Cross buns and had a rest at the top of the Falls ...

We eventually left this tranquil place and marched at double pace back out to the vehicle - all up it took just shy of 5 hours and was a great way to spend a day out.

I didn't actually take a snap of the rig this time but I really should throw in a LR image ...

Thanks Mark - we have an "advantage" of both being from down south - so no relies up here!

At times I was wishing I could hop into the Defender - it was quite some exercise really.

Kat has wanted to explore that trek for a while now, so we just went ahead and did it - only takes 1.25hrs to get there!

I clearly need a new camera - those are nice pics indeed.

Tenuous Landrover link there at the end, but who cares.

Isnt it amazing what a bit of rainfall does. I walked that track some years ago and it was a dustbowl. While we were resting at the top of the falls a chinook ascended vertically in front of us. It had come up the valley and was cresting the range right in front of us. Still remember it vividly.

Well - tha pic of the truck was taken only a few km's away from the bush walk - but a few weeks before.

And it is a fine camera - a Nikon D40X - using a polarising filter here.

I'll bet you do! That would have been amazing. We had a few Eagles above us but they were quite silent.
