    Diff Lock

Can every Defender owner go out to there Defender and grab hold of the diff lock lever and see how many positions the lever has from diff lock to unlock left side being locked and right side unlocked mine seems to have 3 positions lock, unlock and nowere but in nowere it moves itself back to unlock and today in lock it moved itself to unlock

working for a transmission and gearbox company i have seen this a few times, the pivot on the selector fork in the transfer case has a brass bush which can sometimes wear. I had it on mine when i first bought it but using esso lt71141 oil a decent stabilizer has seemed to fix it in mine. it mainly happened when it was hot. As for the ones we have repaired it is mainly due to lack of lubrication, due to oil leaking and stuff all oil in the transfer case. hope this helps

Move the vehicle slightly - drive forward or back, so the gears mesh in and engage.

or, I'm not understanding what you're saying.

    Unhappy

grab hold of the diff lock leaver and push it to the left and it locks the diff then move it back to the unlock position and there is a small clik and diff unlocks but then I can move it to the right as well and back again and get the same click I seem to have a mistry spot that does nothing Problem is when in the left position and locked it is only just in and has come out twice on its own

All I can say is that mine has two definate positions, it never feels like it wants to stop in the middle.
When engaging and disengaging I found it neccessary to put the gearbox in neutral to ensure the cdl went in easily and properly.

Riped up the floor to day and all I can see is a limit plate on top of the transfer lever that is stopping the lever from going over to the left and engaging diff lock. So what I have done is left out the plate for now and will see what happends but I think the real problem is inside the front housing of the transfer case
