No doubt many will disagree with parts of this assessment of which LR of the last 30-odd years makes the most reliable/practical/comfortable 4x4 base vehicle:
Les Richmond Automotive P/L

I just find it funny that he wants comfort, all the mod cons, power and low consumption, AND NO WIRING! hahah
The computers are the things that controls the cars, makes unuseable systems useable.
The only people i know that say those things dont know much about electronics. Yes electronics dont like getting wet, but neither does much else. just seal it.
Im waiting for the 'new hydraulic windows', no wires at all!
Cheers!
At least these guys seem very helpful and actually respond to emails etc. They also seem to have a good range of springs available to account for most requirements. Are these guys as good as they seem?

They are helpful and have very good range of parts and accesories. Hardly ever go there now though as they are too far from home and there are many places much closer to shop for bits.
what you said there is 100% correct old dog machanics that dont understand the mod tech always knock it but yes he is right to an extent but I feel that the electronics have made 4x4 more reliable rather unreliable in the old days I imagine crossing a river with dizzy would have been a night mare and to have to losen the belt so that alternator so that that the engine externals doesnt get wet wow STONE AGE![]()
don't laugh...
you could get hydraulic windows in the 1960's 600 series mercedes.
The Mercedes-Benz 600 Home Page
then they decided cheap and nasty electric motors were better, so they faded into obscurity.
as for LRA, the guy has his opinion, I have mine... I LOVE the defender/110's comfort level
I don't know much about these guys (heard alot), but i think they're trying to make a subtle hint:
Buy whatever model you want, as simple as possible (easier for them), then BRING IT HERE AND SPEND $15000 on tyres, axles, lift, diffs, lockers, g/box rebuild, new 4.6L, rear drawers, fridge, etc, etc, etc...
They would say that. Why would he say "this ones the best, buy it, it'll be fine as it is, nothing to spend".
HE'S A SALESMAN GUYS!!!![]()
