Bangalore is the main tech centre in India I believe. That's certainly where HP have their global response centre.

    Yep Bangalore.
The delay is caused by a computer placing the call and then rotating to the first operator.
If the other end does not answer within say 2 seconds when you say hello, hang up.

Same for Oracle, NetGear and heaps of other IT companies.

It's hard to keep costs down and make decent returns to shareholders so call centres tend to be offshored.

Interestingly Citibank (bank), Maginet and TPG (ISPs) have their call centres in the Phillipines.

    Yep.
    I do that.
I also if they get through and are pushy ask for the company again and then state that I'm on the do not call so get their supervisor on the line so I can make a formal complaint. They hang up instantly on that one.

Since the 'no call register' was introduced has anyone else noticed that there seems to be a big increase in the number of hawkers, sellers and tinkers knocking on your door. It's certainly happening around my area and as per the annoying phone calls, it's usually about dinner time. I'm not very polite when this happens

I haven't seen anyone doing the door-to-door stuff in years.

Maybe I should have got dressed before answering the doorbell back then?

    Mumbai have a few..

my staff get asked daily where they are from, lots of people still don't beleive australian companies would have a call centre in australia, and forget we have a multicutural society and can have people from all over the world living and working here..

I love them abusing my staff speaking to me to finally toalk to ' an australian' only to be told the person they were talking too was born in australia and I wasn't (British)...

Increase from zero to zero. In the fifteen years I have lived here I have never had a door to door salesman - in fact, I think I have only had two unannounced visitors - one was a couple of blokes in a Landcruiser wanting to know if there was another way out without crossing "that awful creek", the other was a couple of uniformed gentlemen in a paddywagon looking for unauthorised crops (none here, but a neighbour four properties to the north is currently on holidays at Long Bay for doing this, and another neighbour about twenty kilometres away is only at home thanks to NSW's former "Minister for Early Release (for a fee)").

John, I think you can put it down to the fact that you need a cut lunch and a six-pack of cans to get to your home, but I would swap you tomorrow for it, Regards Frank.
