    urgent info... 300tdi disco

    Hi Guys

just been to look at a very shabby 300tdi disco, its one of the last built and its a heap. sub 200k k's tho

apparently its very sluggish which im guessing could be throttle cable, tappets or something of that ilk

its roof lining is knackered, the rear window seals are split and bumper dented

it has an oil leak, apparently a power steering leak, but to me looks like oil cooler or gearbox oil cooler lines leaking.

it has full service history and receipt for things like power steering belts etc but to be honest i didnt look that close.

it has a smart bar with winch fittings and needs new tyres

interior ideally needs ripping out but may clean up!

question is... what else do i need to look for? and are the leaks splits and faults common? and easy to sort?

i have a couple of hours to jump otherwise i lose it...

    Thanks in advance

    Steve

    New car for Rachael?
How much are they asking and what year 5teve?
Rust under the floor alpine windows that rust rear floor that rusts
clunks in drivetrain whines and noises from diffs and gearbox.
Basically depending on the price depending on how much u have to do to bring it up to specs. Its all relevant, By the time u fix it all up could you have gone and bought one in better condtion for the same price that the one u are looking at will be when u have finished,Your time is nothing, but if you have to pay someone then it will get expensive.
if its costing u a grand or so and u get it home and find out it needs too much work Then I am sure u will get your money back in wrecking it (thats If Rachael will let you..lol)
    Just my 10 cents 5teve

sounds like it would be okay, it was just parked in the sun too much by the sounds of it...

check for anything that may indicate it has been overheated.. eg water not coolant in coolant tank etc etc etc...

it runs and throttle cable is as loose as anything....

has had power steering pump and belts... and also lift pump.. replaced and in last 5 years its done about 17k k's by the looks of it.

tickover seems very low tho? is that usual? and is the 300tdi a noisy engine?

teeny bit of bubble on one of the alpine windows... but nearly all the window rubbers are shot.

from what i can see the floor in the back is still shiney.. hard to get carpet up tho.

noticed tow bar says nose weight 125kg which i knew, but tow ball capacity is 4tonne? made me wonder if it was a uk import..

    Thanks

thanks for that Mr Clarkie yes i did mean it the other way...

for those of you wondering why i was getting excited,

it was a very dirty but seemingly well serviced 300TDI disco auto, 1998, with 167000k's on it electric everything i could of had (and it was working) with new lift pump and power steer pump.

i was in with a chance of getting it for $4.5k, unfortunately on the night a bloody dealer turned up and took the bidding to 6200, hence the reason i was trying to get the thing before the auction. never mind will keep my eyes open for more.. including a defender which would be better... as we already have a disco..

    Thanks

    Steve
