    Zip Tie Madness

Right... well i've gotten sick of my ignition leads leaking on me so tonight I decided to do something about it.

I had already tried once before to sort the problem but when I checked tonight in the dark, you would throttle the car rapidly and you would get a light show under the bonnet!

Sigh... the problems of 12:1 CR... not even 10.5mm leads can handle it... anyway, here is what I resorted to... zip ties... Works surprisingly well! Reduced the problem substantially! But not completely eliminated...

I was wondering if anyone else had some tips or hints on the problem?

    Yep
Go to a performace products retailer(ie speed shop/drags etc) you can buy the lead seperators, unsure what they call them.I reckon Ebay would be a start.

Mate that is artwork... the only thing Id have done differently is to add thin sections of plastic/rubber between the zipties and the leads to prevent vibration causing the leads to cut into the rubber....

The lead seperators can be purchased from autoproshops but are kinda pricey when compared to zipties.

Just go to a laser cutter over there and ask them to cut you spacers out of Teflon or HDPE if they won't give me a yell in 4 weeks when I get back from holidays

Might help if you cleaned the mud and crap off the leads as well, spray them with Non-conductive spray or WD-40, Regards Frank.

Mate, that has to be the dirtiest motor I've ever seen
I think you should at least clean the radiator!

I'm surprised the vehicle doesn't overheat!

As Frank said, if you had cleaned it first ........

    Cheers,

Aww come on, it's not all that dirty... It was once clean... about 4000Km ago...

That's what happens when you play follow the leader on numerous dusty tracks up in the high country!! I cleaned the car, but haven't gotten to the engine. I will get in there with a pressure washer at some point. The main thing that is dirtying up my engine bay is the line that has my crank case under a slight vacuum... the oil is starting to sweat out of the hose!!

And there isn't any problems with overheating. The big thermo fan keeps it cool no problem.
