Early next week I am driving from Brisbane to Sydney.
If I give the "wave" to every Land Rover vehicle I Pass along the 900km journey, what percentage return do you think I will get ?
And which Landy type will have the highest return rate ?
Keep in mind I am in a P38 - the least waved at Landy on offer.
I'll give it a go and post my findings.

I got a wave from a Defender coming home from Easter, spun me out as I rarely get waves from Disco's (what I drive) so to have the Defender initiate the wave was different.
Good luck, but I'm sure it won't be over 25%![]()

Don't Follow Me, I'm in a "Land Rover", You WON'T make it.
aut viam inveniam aut faciam
The results will be interesting...I reckon 10%.
I'll be driving from Sydney to Smoky Cape this Saturday and will try like wise. I'll have a car full of potential Land Rover spotters on board so that I don't miss any. It's embarrassing when you get caught out: I was spotted and waved at by Lucy (one of the AULRO mob) when I was down in Nowra and I missed seeing him.

Ex 300Tdi Disco:
I reckon you'll get a lot more if you're the one initiating than if you wait for people to wave at you.
Around Brisbane, I reckon in my series III i get a wave from 95% of other series owners, 80% of Defender owners, maybe 40% of Disco drivers, 5% drunken buggers in the city on a night out, and bugger all else from anyone - although i did get my first wave from a freelander the other day![]()
If you get a 5% response I think you will be doing VERY well and they will mostly be older Landies.
Best of luck.
I try this going from mountains to Sydney on regular occasions and find it's a pretty poor response. I get maybe up to 2 discos every trip and about half of the defenders but that's it.
Mind you a guy in an old rangie has not started waving to me and I see him regularly so that's a start.
I don't think you will exceed 10% either. And when I drove up to grafton just before xmas I didn't see one deefer once out of sydney.

I think that the least waved at/by Land Rover without a doubt will be the RR Sport.
But you are right it is closely followed by the P38a and the current Vogue (what ever that is called), Disco owners (particularly D3) rarely if ever wave even though I drive a RRclassic and I think that Defender owners are so shocked to get a wave they are stunned to immobility.
Perhaps you should have an escort vehicle with a big sign "Land Rover Wave Following".
Then by the time you arrive the LR drivers will be primed.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Make it more complicated.
My guess is:
25% waving from any LR that looks like its heading off-road soon.
5% from LR clearly not heading off-road anytime.
1% by any LR thats driven by mum picking up school kids.
Double these figures if you initiate the wave.
If you flash your lights then wave, increase these figures by a factor of 1.7
and one more..
100% from the Police(waving you to pull over) whether you initiate it or not for weaving around not in control of your vehicle because of all your waving.
Heres one to start your trip with.good luck.
