I didn't.
There are millions of places close to Melbourne with passable tracks..what are some on about...
unless your talking about the speed humps at Chadstone shopping centre.
I don't think they should be banned. I personally don't use large tyres now. Used to, but found they caused too many overall problems with the added strain ie, wheel bearings, raise the centre of gravity, non-existent turning circle, etc, & are bloody heavy!
We sometimes run 35's on the Rangie, & can't say I've noticed any undue deterioration on the tracks.
But if you can afford to modify everything to go with the big tyres, & want them, then go for it! No doubt, in the next few years they will be banned, along with everything else, so may as well use them while you can.
My god what the **** is with you people, I've started a thread to discuss ideas to decrease destruction to the tracks you all use, and thereby ideas to keep them open, and this is what you turn it into?
I don't give a rat's **** if the idea is a bad one, come up with a better one, or the tracks will end up being closed by those that can.
It wasn't even my idea, I stole it!
You lot really need to take a look at yourselves.
The same goes for Gav's thread on posting "hoon" video's, the same idea is behind it,
TO KEEP THE TRACKS OPEN!
When was the last time anyone put something up for disscusion and it did not turn into a debate??
You can't expect any one not to debate over such a question far too many people that have such differences in opinion...
You asked people for their thoughts and that is what you have got
Just take the thick with the thin and don't bite![]()
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
You would think that the tracks are there specifically for 4wders to have fun on if you were to go by posts like this.....They are not.
They are there to allow access to places where log trucks have to go to pull out logs so you can build houses etc,
They are there so bush walkers can get their Prius closer to where they want to walk to,
They are there so that trail bike/mountain bike riders can trailer their bikes to a starting/camping spot,
They are there so that DSE/Parks/Police/CFA and others that use the bush for their lively hood also need to use them.
I think this is the point of tracks like Clearhills trk or the Staircase, access but tracks like Monument is a bit more of a Challenge or maybe even some of the side tracks down around Pinapple flat if you want to play.
The 35" tyre argument is only important if the vehical is not designed to have them such as most LR's (other than Forward control) as the wheel bearings are not up to it and the brakes arnt either so for me it is a safety thing nothing to do with the traks as such.
If you modify the vehical to suit 35" tyres then I dont see a problem as the hooning issue is completely separate and not all people who have 35" tyres hoon with them on.
