Thread: Breaking into a Disco?

Do all Disco's with remote locking have an alarm?? Had this gone off? Was the drivers door actually locking as I have a sticky back door which will only lock by hand.

As for breaking in I would imagine its not to hard given the design of the car, but this would of set off the alarm? Also my passenger door light switch doesn't work (switch is fine, broken join somewher) so the alarm won't go off if you manage to open that door.

Seems strange that all three locks were locked

Unsure of the D1 security.
But on a D2(as any vehicle) you can forget to lock it.If you had the drivers door unlocked and alarm not set (a D2 feature,unsure about D1) any oportune theif only needs to check for unlocked doors and then help themselves!!!!

I have a D1.
If it is locked with the key pad, all hell breaks loose if a door or the bonnet is opened without deactivating the alarm.
You cannot even open a door with a key without the alarm going off.
However, if you lock it with the key, the alarm is switched off.
We have to do that on short stops when caravanning as we take the Rainbow Lorikeet with us. If she is inside when the alarm is set, the slightest movement sets off the motion dectector.

Maybe you only unlocked the driver door last time you were in the car, then forgot to lock it afterwards or pressed the fob and thought it locked when it didn't.

Of coarse i'm assuming the D1 is like the D2 and you press the fob once to unlock the drivers door and twice to unlock all doors?

That's interesting because my 96 build D1 alarm works a bit differently.

1. If the door is locked with the key, the alarm is still activated, however it only works on the door and bonnet switches. But the ultrasonic movement detector is disabled.
2. If I lock the car with the fob and then unlock it with the key, the alarm does not go off. This is reassuring because sometimes the fob radio signal will not unlock it.

As for the main topic of this thread, ie getting into the car, fossicking around. They could open the door using the normal method of a piece of wire, and ignore the alarm while having a quick fossick. If you look along the bottom window seal you may see marks where the wire has been inserted.

also removing the Navman but leaving bracket on the windscreen ( if that's what you did ) is still a good invitation for thieves, I remove mine now after a reading a tip this site.

On my Disco you press the button on the keyfob once to unlock all the door and then another button once to lock all the doors. I don't use the key to lock/unlock the door.

I also found out yesterday that the siren/horn/sounder/whatever doesn't work on my alarm. The indicators flash but there is no noise. However, since my car is in the basement car park even if the alarm did sound no-one would have heard it

I checked around all the doors and the window seals but couldn't see any damage so whoever broke in must have been pretty careful.

And, as for leaving the bracket in place, well, I don't use my sat nav that often these days so the bracket really doesn't need to be there. I'll be removing that.
