    Another one bites the dust

Walked out this morning to find the Subaru.

Well, not to find the Subaru.

A year and a week since it was last stolen - before we bought it, reports are still on the police computer. Apparently the car has form.

And it's only just over a year since our previous Subaru was stolen.

    That's what I call reliable.

Fortunately comprehensive insurance, and for more than we bought it for.

Downside is that we just spent $2k on registration, service and spanky new tyres. Guess it was good thing we didn't spend the extra to do the timing belt.

    Cheers

    Bugger.

    It's all Dobbo's fault.

Only time I stop in Redfern in the last year, dropping bits off to Dobbo at work.

Next morning the car is stolen and turns up that afternoon in Redfern.

    Coincidence?

    I think not.

Only thing worse than having the car stolen is getting it back before the insurance pays off.

    Cheers

Dunno yet, got towed for fingerprinting.

Still got fingerprint powder in the car from the last time. That stuff doesn't come off and it doesn't come back from the police washed.

Wasn't too concerned when it got pinched, you get used to that, but getting it back is really giving me the biscuit.

Still haven't heard back from the forensics, so no idea what the damage is.

Just as a hypothetical, if the timing belt let go during the time it was stolen is that an insurance worthy claim?

Y'know how it is, I'm starting to wonder what was wrong with it that they'd dump a great car like the Subaru so soon.

    Freak.

    Simon,

    I lost 2 vehicles in 3 months...

The first written off, the second stripped....

The 2nd one still had the gearbox and they killed the clutch...

Insurance only pays 'pro-rata' for items like clutch etc...

Had the awful 240 - heavy, slow, thirsty, hot, powerless, resentful, tried to catch on fire every time I drove it - very few times - the year-old reco gearbox from the Volvo enthusiast died.

Test drove an 850 when wife was shopping to replace the last stolen Subaru. Wife said it was, 'sluggish and boaty,' and this was literally after she stepped from the driving seat of the 130.

Think that one had a head problem.

    Lived here for 17 years.

    Toyota Corolla wagon stolen.
Datsun 510 stolen twice and recovered within walking distance, by us, both times.
Subaru Liberty stolen and was getaway car for a servo hold-up spree.
Subaru Outback stolen, dunno what it was up to yet.
Ford F250 4wd, frequently got the stuffing beaten out of it by passers by, particular enthusiasm for wing mirrors.
Subaru L wagon, beaten, broken, run into, trashed, thrashed, totalled.
Toyota Carolla hatch, broken into a couple of times but never damaged.
Land Rovers never touched. One time someone stole some ram out of a computer I had in the tray, and someone has pinched my sad stack of $2 store nylon rope.

Wife's happy to drive the Defender, but doesn't want a Land Rover for herself. Her alternatives to a Subaru are an X-trail, even after the dog we had in Hobart, or maybe one of those Mitsubishi inported 4wd van thingys. She won't hear a good word about Volvos.

Now if it was a Renault 12.

I went out with a swedish girl once. Given half the chance I would have stolen her mum's 940 wagon
