    Snorkle + Carwash?

    I had a good weekend:

I bet you were expecting to see a picture there... No. Bad Photobucket.

Anyhoo, thick layer of mud, covering approximately (and not exaggerating) 95% of the car. Can't be bothered washing it myself - this particular brand of mud takes a couple of good hard washes to get off. Enter the carwash. Problem: Snorkle.

Snorkle + Carwash = BANG to my TDi?

I have visions of it squirting water down it. Not such a problem as the McDonalds cup I had blocking the other hole in the airbox has finally given up. Or the carwash ripping the head of the snorkle off altogether...

A realistic concern? Or nothing to worry about?

Nothing to worry about...what do you think happens when it rains?!

Most snorkels have a drain in them to funnel out water before heading into the air filter. I wouldnt even have thought that as a problem.

Geez... if I had my car covered 95% in mud I would be doing everything possible to get a photo on here! because that would be quite an effort!

Anyway, as for killing the engine, normally the airboxes have dainage holes on the bottom of it to allow water that comes in through the snorkel to drain out. I any case, I don't think enough water would get in there to cause any problems. It would be the equivalent to driving through really heavy rain.

As for whether it will knock off the snorkel... I have no idea... I would hope not! Cause then it would want to take mirrors off and what not

This brings back memories of my old wrecking yard days and a young girl standing there holding a mangled wiper arm with motor attached, she had apparently been to a car wash and the rear wiper on the hatch was picked up and pulled the wiper motor straight out through the glass !, I couldnt help but laugh then I was silly enough to not lower the aerial in AU and now there is no aerial !

you know what, i didn't think of that. well, i thought of the rain, but its been quite a loooong time since i've been in a carwash. and i didn't think of the mirrors either. damn, now i'll be worried about the mirrors coming off... wait, no, scratch that, switch it around. haha!
