Anyone???
I didn't think they were that new.
Has anyone here had experience with Backtrax Camper Trailers? I am looking (just looking) at the off-road either standard or deluxe models.
They seem very compact, extremely light (fibreglass shell) and relatively cheap for what you get ($14k-$19K). The awning & tent design is what I like the most. The awning clips onto the lid and that means you can erect it first before even pulling the main tent out. This allows everything under to stay mostly dry if setting up or packing down in the rain. Also the awning goes right over the top of the tent roof giving a double layer which improves thermal perfomance a bit. The bed is under the fibreglass lid too which makes for a cosy sleeping area.

I haven't seen these before! What a versatile camper. There are so many options and combinations. I like the ability to pack up the main tent under the awning.
It's a great option for 2-3 people, but a bit small for a family. Quite reasonably priced too.
Have you had a look at one yet?

I haven't seen one of these in the flesh yet - maybe on the week-end.
I am interested to know people's thoughts on the fibreglass tub for outback touring (ie. suceptibility to perforation by stones). The stone guards and spare tyre location should offer good protection but I'm just not sure. At least fibreglass is relatively easy to patch.
Unit weight is only 350kg (less than one American!) and ball weight is only 35kg. Towing it with a Defender you wouldn't even know if it was attached.
If you sleep in the trailer as per usual then it looks like the bed would be pretty small. Is there a bed extension into the main tent part?
Assuming the bed is ok then I would think it would be limited to two people. Not only because the tent part is standing room only but on a long trip it looks like a lot of gear is still going to be stored in the car. Can't see much room being left over once all its canvas, kitchen etc is packed into the trailer. Probably not a real problem in a 110 as opposed to my Disco1.
A lot of money for such a little soft floor camper.
depends on the chassis and suspension, fiberglass can be a bitch... and it can be great..

I think the trailer is bigger than it looks - they say the bed is a queen size. I'll believe it when I see it though.
looking at that last pic and the lid being where it is, and without a window in it, i reckon it would be a hot little mother in summer....
the rest looks great but that alone would stop me buying one...
and in winter you would get condensation on the lid dripping into the bedding i reckon....
