Responding to a special offer from AA (that's Automobile Association, not the other one) for 5 grand worth of free gas if I get a car insurance quote from them, I called them up with both landies
Going through the process of answering questions to confirm id, etc. (been a member for 21 years) we get onto the veehickils, first one then the other.
She says "What is the year, make and model?"
I says "1983, Land Rover 109"
She says "Oh, is that a Toyota Land Rover, or a Nissan Land Rover"
Coughing, says I (slowly) "No it's a Land Rover"
Some bits omitted here but then she says "Land Rover isn't listed, I'll have to type it in"
Honestly, good help is soooo hard to find. And I'd like to take a whip to the developers of their system, or whip 'em around from the back of the 109![]()

Strictly speaking, I suppose that they should be listed either as they were at the time of manufacture (Rover to 1967, Leyland to 1989, then Landrover) or as shown on the registration (both mine 1970 and 1986 are registered as Landrover).
Certainly it would be reasonable to expect any insurance company to have in their database at least every model registered in their home state, although my experience suggests that your expectations would be disappointed.

We are talking Automobile Association here.
I think it's reasonable expect them to know one brand from another and certainly not get them mixed in up their systems so that the options become "Toyota Land Rover" and "Nissan Land Rover".
Even a bog standard insurance company can differentiate brands and anyway, who knows/cares which companies build what brands these days. Brands get passed around all the time and frankly, I can't be bothered keeping up. How many manufacturers have owned Land Rover, and still we call them Land Rover. Following that logic we would call them a Tata Jamin Gumakkad oror something.
In the 70's we had an Austin Morris Leyland MarinaDoesn't matter who made it, it was rubbish and only lasted 6 months before it turned into a pile of rubber and rust.
