GAZ not to many of them now on the roads ( but then there never were)
Uaz, common as, even today thay are build on a series one looking ladder. haveing one of these is a good way to build up your tool box, first tool is a big hammer.
but then in RF you can still buy a New Lada Classic Box, with injection LOL
With the neweer ones looking like the early Rav's and the boom in compact 4x4's, the Aussie dollar etc it is a bit surprising someone hasn't tried brigning them back in again.
See photos of new UAZ Patriot.
Here is the story :)
LandyAndy was on the money!
Morattab Land Rovers
Santana agreed a licence contract with Morattab to allow production of Santana Land Rover products in Iran.
In their factory at Farsi Morattab assembled Santana based 88" and 109" Series vehicles.
Major components arrived from Spain as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits.
According to sources, Morattab started production of Santana Land Rover licensed vehicles around 1970.
The Iranian Lightweight, although bearing a strong similarity to the Militar, was reported to be of almost 100% Iranian manufacture.
Currently, around 90% of the vehicle's content is manufactured in Iran.
However, Morattab has evolved separately from Santana, just as Santana did from Land Rover.
Santana sold on their Series IV / 2500 production line to Morattab around 1995.
Production volume in Iran in 2003 was 1,369 Station Wagon vehicles and 223 pick-ups.
Based on the Santana 2500 design, the modernized 3-door Pazhan 2400 GS / GSV station wagon and the 4-door Pazhan 2400 GD / GLD pick-up models were introduced in 1999, with the 5-door Pazhan 2400 GL station wagon added in 2000.
All the cars have 4x4 drive and Land Rover Defender style bodies, and are equipped with 2.4-litre 105 hp engines.
In 2004, the following versions were launched:
The 5-door Pazhan 3000 GLV station wagon, and the 5-seat Pazhan 3000 GLD / GLP pick-ups, equipped with a 3.0-litre 160 hp V6 power plant.
Hi there,
I am planing a trip through S/Korea-Vladivostoc-Moscow next May. Anyone out there to give me some tips for the planing? The Defender is pretty well set up, have done a few extended trips through outback Australia. Would like to here from Russians or travelers that have gone through Russia.
HH
i did Vad to Yaro and back a couple of times, you will not get it done in may.
There are a number of different types of police in RF GAI are the traffic cops and there will be a few check points along the way, so make sure your documents are in order.
An aussie drivers license is OK for 3 months from time of arrival.
Never give your passport to a cop but hold it open at the various pages for him to read. Russian cops are not allowed to hold your passport. ( property of a forren country)
Make sure you have a international drivers permit "RAA" and make sure it has a Russian page in it. This will not allow you to drive by its self you must have a valid visa aussie DL and visa stamped passport.
Make sure you get good advice on vehicle documents, I believe you may even have a Army resisted document because it’s a landrover. In short it’s a document registering you vehicle with the army so they can just take it from you when ( not if) the west invades.
If you are asked to sit in the cop car because they wish to issue a ticket. that’s ok but remember many Cop cars ( regardless of there appearance or age) have internal cams to catch bribes. DOINT offer or pay a bribe, once they realize you are a unsophisticated dum aussie its not worth there trouble. also you will not get issued any speeding tickets, since the aussie DL has 2 more digits than a Russian DL and there are not enough boxes on the form = to hard.
also as you don’t speak Russian a cop has to provide a registered interrupter with in 3 hours. even if they manage to provide one make sure you speak aussie, i mean AUSSIE. no understand = to hard.
Don’t drink- period
once you get west of ekinburg things get a bit more normal.
Never say any thing negative about Russia.
Poor villages are more risky than big city’s.
