    New clutch recommendations for 130

    Good Morning All,
I am hoping that somebody may be able to give me the benefit of their own experiences and recommended some suitable clutch options for a defender 130. I have a good mate who reckons Daiken are the go as he says the pedal feel and pressure is fairly good for when the beloved wants a turn at driving. Is there such a thing as a heavy duty clutch with a light clutch pedal? Any comments will be most welcomed.
    Thanks very much
    Dave

Valeo are pretty much standard replacement. Though i do believe there are a couple of companies who make heavy duty 4x4 clutches, but can not recall the names.

The other choice is the AP/ Borg & Beck.( And we're talking both a friction plate and a new pressure plate ) It's a little softer when engaging gears than the valeo HD, but there isn't much difference in foot pressure. It seems the AP is a bit better.

    Hi Mate
Does this mate of yours know a fair bit about Landrovers?

Thought I might add onto this thread

I'm in search of a clutch for the Defender (110)

What are all my options? I'm after a very heavy duty clutch, I do a fair bit of towing and I also have a few more ponies than a standard 300 Tdi

    Are you back home Jock?
    Check out Exceedy.

Not sure if Exceedy/Daikin make one for a Tdi or if it's just a re-packaged someone elses unit like a Valeo.

Jock, ask JC what he's fitting these days.

I'm not sure if AP Driveline (Borg & Beck) are still in the clutch business, although I sort of remember Karcraft posting here that they were getting new stocks a little while back.
AP went into Administration with the GFC hitting hard in the UK and I don't think the parent Co tried to bail them at all but have a feeling they were sold to a Euro (Italian ?) clutch company.

    Stick with genuine....

I did have an exceedy heavy duty clutch in mine when I first picked up my truck (1998 300tdi 130) from the previous owner...it shudded up hills from first gear take off and was very hard to drive. I got rid of it and went back to genuine.....so much smoother now.

Also make sure your slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder are up to scratch as these can affect pedal feel as well.

    Cheers
