It would be none of my business, they could have been brought at auction, garage sales found at the local tip anything really...
And just to set the record straight, yes I to would do something about criminal activity, might not be Dob them in though...(a heavy weight on the fingers works most times...)
I bet you blokes peek through your curtains to see if the next door neighbour is braking water restrictions don't you...
And as for the safty aspect of missing sings in the high country or the bush if you go to theses places without the proper nav aids and the ability to use them you deserve all you get but I suppose you ....... would sue the local .Gov for not haveing the aproperate sineage so you didnt get lost. .......

I get the feeling that you thought that I was making an attack on your post. It wasn't so. What I was alluding to was that people are more-and-more relying on man-made features, such as signs, when they should be getting their navigation skills up to scratch.
No, I don't use a sextant, but I do carry navigation aids and detailed topo maps (which I can interpret).

Some of you in Melbourne may or may not have noticed new signs being erected which are referred to as Emergency Markers. These signs are being installed in public places such as Parks and Landmarks, in areas of high community traffic such as Birrarung Marr & Fed Square and many walking trails.
If you need an emergency service and you are at a location which has an emergency marker nearby, you quote the emergency marker number to the Calltaker when they ask for your location.
Once entered into the CAD System, the Dispatcher is provided with step by step instructions to provide the attending emergency personnel on how to gain access to that particular area (i.e. who to contact to get keys) and where exactly to go to find you. This is also backed up by GPS coordinates of where the sign is which can be provided directly to the Police Airwing.
I've attached some files & a photo which gives you an idea of what they look like. If you have a new Melway, look at Lysterfield Park and Albert Park Lake and you'll see them detailed in there as well.
I say all this as there are a further 700 markers being rolled out this year across the greater metropolitan area as well as surround country areas such as Lerderderg Gorge. These will start appearing in areas we all frequent such as entrances to Parks as well as central areas within the Parks such as a camping ground or picnic area.
