I always assumed the missing signs was because of the recent bush fires?
poor form if they are being stolen.![]()
Just spent a couple of very wet and cold days up in the high country (Vic). Drove up over Mt Stirling then on down to Pineapple Flat where I camped.
Took a bit of a tour up to Lake Cobbler just to kill some rain/sleet time and couldn't help but notice the almost complete lack of track sign posts.
Now I have a reasonable knowledge of the area and also had the laptop on the passenger seat with Ozie Explorer doing its thing so I was fine, but the weather was absolutely crap up there this week with snow and sleet being almost constant, I just wonder how someone not so well equipped would go navigating up there with no reference points?
Whatever happened to the souvenirs of a good trip being the photo's you took along the way?
People caught knocking off these signs should be locked upbefore someone pays very heavy price for their ignorance.

Sign theft is real common.
We have 2 real popular ones that constatly get nicked.Taylors rd,a month or 6 weeks would be a record.
Pig Gully Rd,a week is about as long as that one ever lasts.
The signs with Quindanning on them seem to be very popular too.
Costs the shire thousands every year in replacements.

I was doing some contract work for a government instumentality last week.
I found a Hut decorated with heaps of track name signs, locality signs etc.
Can't wait to see what happens to the culprits myself.
Most of the signs are gone due to the fires, we had the same trouble when driving around when we were there.

Cheers Baz.

In my view, anyone travelling in the Vic High Country or similar areas and relying on road signs is asking for all they get.
Best Wishes,

PS: When I was a member of a wilderness search & rescue group, we once found a missing bushwalker in the Budawangs. She was travelling solo & wanted to sue the NPWS for not providing more detailed signage.![]()
