I need a bit o advice.
I remember Dave. (BLKNGHT) posting something about the power point chargers he has that come with just about everything these days have been breeding. Well I have the same problem but I'm a little confused.
I have a hand held searchlight, plastic body black rubber band around the front etc. Anyway about 3 weeks ago the battery croaked it and I thought I'd chuck it and buy a new one.
I was a bit reluctant to do this as it shines a brilliant light,has a great reflector
I discovered that it is powered by a 4.5AH 6v sealed Lead Acid battery. Now the charger I've been using was the original I thought but I've just noticed it is marked output 12V 0.3 amp (3.6)VA
My question is given its a 6 Volt battery and under no load the charger produces 14.7vis it the right one to use?
I'm going out in the shed to sus out aternatives

Sorry I got very little knowledge on this but doesn't it then mean it offers a quicker charge to the battery if it has that sought of output?
btw- I love those hand held spotties they are fantastic.

not the right one.....
when you plug it onto the light its voltage will drop as it cant keep up with the load which is good for the battery but bad for the plug pack. When the battery starts to charge up the voltage on the plug pack will come up higher which will then toasty the battery.
the right charger for a 4.5A6v SLA would be something along the lines of a 500mA at about 7v.
Ive just checked my 6v spottie. the plug on the light says 7.5v max input voltage, the charger is marked as 7.5v@500mA and puts out 9+abitV (wont stabalise the decimal and hovers between .0x and .21 max but that might be the cheapy meter) with nothing hooked up to it. the battery is a 4Ah6V SLA.
