    Tru Traks

Well l asked for prices to install front and rear tru trak diffs to 1993 range rover price from WA diffs in Perth was $3750

I asked for price of supply of front and rear tru trak diffs to be sent to me from Australian distributor and l would arrange fitment myself, price quoted was $950 apiece $1900.

I asked Keith at Rover traks in USA and got the front and rear shipped to me in Perth from Colorado for $1200 (aus)

Waiting on USA postal service to do the business, they were apparently in San Fransico on 25th April, haven't been delivered yet.

Seems odd - I've only ever had to wait 7-10 days for stuff form the US (Unless it's gun stuff where customs adds about three weeks of delays!). Get the tracking number off Keith and give Aus post a ring.

I'm about to order the front diff and CV kit off him.

    Tru Traks update

UPS tracking says the tru traks for the front and rear of the 93 rangie classic has been with Australian Customs since May 4th having left San Francisco on April 25th.

Australian Customs letter fronted up today 14th May at home wanting me to fill in some declaration forms and pay import duties as value of tru traks are over $1000.

Car parts are 10% import duty then gst of 10% of the price plus duty, so if they cost 1200 USD @ .93 cents to AUD you will be looking at approx. 1290 AUD + 10 % duty = 1419 AUD plus gst = 1560.90 AUD . This a rough calc based on no other charges being added to your purchase price- although gst is calculated on the freight cost as well.

UPS is United Parcel Service, a private sector courier company. USPS is the United States Postal Service, the post office, and a damn sight cheaper than UPS, Fed Ex, or DHL. All mail from the USA now comes by air, the surface mail service having been discontinued exactly one year ago today, May 14th. My tools from a NY supplier typically take 5-7 days from date of postmark.

Ah ha! Yes, if you shipped them together and the total amount was over $1,000 you'd get hit for duty and that would delay things while they write to you re payment and collection!

I always get a quote for two packages vs. one package, and if the difference in shipping is less than the likely duty, I do two seperate orders, and don't order the second one until the first one is here!!

Thats unlucky. I've imported a few times from the US and every order has arrived within 5 working days and no customs.

$3750 is a complete rip off though. They're a very easy diff to fit.
    Cheers

Exactly - but mechanics charge like the proverbial over here.

Cartm - if you want to fit them yourself I am happy to help out.

    Cheers,

    Ben.
