I love fishing for bass![]()
Hi Guys , Is there any bass players in the house ? I'm looking at getting started into playing a bass after years of playing the drums ( want a change ) . What is a good Bass Guitar as in bang for your buck ? Not wanting to pay a fortune for it but i know i will have to fork out a bit of cash .
Sorry it's not land rover's![]()

depends on what you want in a bass...but bang for your buck you could get a good deal on a yamaha bass..second hand of course.....
go to www.ausband.com.au and have a look in the for sale bit..sometimes there is something there. Or Foot69 on there is in Geelong and is known to have guitars and basses for sale every now and then.
Good luck and let me know if you have any gigs.....

Washburn make a really nice one that is relatively cheap but I much prefer the old 6 string Fender.
I used to have a nice little Alien headless bass that was very popular in the 80s but I sold it on Ebay a little while ago, too light for me and looked a bit small as well but a good sound and great fun to slap and the active pick up gave great pop.
Im not that much of a bass player though, Im more just a campfire guitarist.
Yep... Bassist here.
Personally, I'd cruise around a load of music shops trying them out to see what feels & sounds nice as everyone will have their own preferences, styles, etc... Play it acoustically as if it sounds OK like that, you can be fairly sure that it'll amp up well.
We're a bit spoilt over here as we've got "The Bass Centre"... The choice of basses & amps there is amazing!
I've got 3 basses and my favorite is my Warwick Corvette 4 string (I've also got a custom made fretless and an old Marlin Sidewinder).

ahhh yeah..... the bass centre
*wanders off mumbling and cursing...luck sod*
Excellent advice.... best to try out as many as you can before you buy.......
case in point..... my mate has a Marcus Miller Sig. jazz bass, over $2k when bought....he loves it....but i much prefer my sub $300 Ibanez roadster over it any day!
Drummer hey?..... should have a jam some day!
My style is mixed. Have some blues, funk rock and metal experience......last bands below.

I'm no musician but I work at a performing arts school and a large proportion of players seem to go for the Fender, Precision or Jazz. Not all of them, but given the number of makers out there they seem to have a good slice of the market - The Troopy of basses?
I saw a DVD of neil Young and his bass player had a great tone - I could even tell from the concert footage. He was playing a Lakland but I suspect that might be a Range Rover Vogue of basses.
I play Bass as well. My advice would be to buy 2nd hand, you can find some nice bargains in pawn shops and cash converters.
Mine is a Vantage Avenger - real wood, not plywood and bog (auto body filler) like most of the lower end basses. IMHO real wood gives a much better sound. Cost me $180 from a pawn shop in 1996 and I wouldn't ever sell it.
The only problem with buying from those sort of places is you can't usually plug it in to try it.
A decent amp is very important with a Bass. I have a Huge Peavey amp with a single 15" speaker. Cost about $400 second hand in 1995.
My son bought a new bass guitar not long before he died. I wionder if my wife will let me sell it?
Oh, wrong guitar.
Ahh! a cut-string guitar!
Hang on, I know I have a pic here somewhere.
Finally! A J&D Luthiers 4-string bass. I'm pretty sure it's an RM-4.
