what was up with the air con, mine is due in the dealer soon for first service and try to get air con fixed, may be i can save me some trouble by pointing them in the right direction.
funny you should mention fuel, until recently i had a fuel issue, one big rattle like sucking air after about 100m driving, then everything normal.
fun of the new car i guess, but still a great machine.

Well, that's the thing. I was really, really considering going into debt and getting a 130, which would be fantastic up here. But I think now my only option is to get a 2009 model in 2019 . . . it'll be old enough by then for me to rebuild!

Sorry - I only just noticed your query here.

The Air Con fault was fixed by replacing the thermal cutout switch (? I think that's right). This was what they fixed the first time so I am yet to be convinced that it is all working now. This time they referred the problem to LR UK and got told the same thing as last time. Interesting to hear that your is the same as there is one other vehicle at my dealer with the same repeating fault.

The noise you're having sounds the same as mine too. I have now had the entire common rail system and fuel lines (to the injectors - not the whole lot) replaced this week. I thought I heard it do the same thing again this morning but can't be sure. I don't think it is related to the issue they fixed yesterday though.

I'll keep an eye on it.

I got the Defender back from the dealer yesterday. This time they replaced the comon rail and attended to the scratched dash fascia. The new panel still doesn't look like it's fitted correctly but after viewing some of Dullbirds interior photos, I think it is just the way they are.

The scraping noise in the steering column is also fixed. They just didn't put the shroud on straight. I probably could have done it myself but one of the frustrating things about warranties is you daren't touch anything in case you make it worse and the dealer decides to just leave you with it.

Now for the stuff-ups!

There is now a NEW noise coming from inside the dash somewhere - behind the instrument panel I think. It might just be one of those Land Rover things, but it's a damn coincidence that it should ne there just after the delaer has been poking around. I dare not mention it at the next service or I will have ten more after they try and fix it.

Despite my urging the dealer to take extreme care re-fitting the stereo head unit - they still couldn't get it right! Nothing broken or damaged this time, just annoying that they can't put something simple like this back the way it was when they pulled it apart.

The unit was not fully pushed home into the cradle (same as last time). I deliberately took the face and surrounding trim off so they couldn't butcher it but they had a go at putting the trim back on when they finished and shouldn't have bothered. I whipped it off only to find the usual bundled up wires jammed back in the hole scenario which resulted in the unit not being able to lock into place. All fixed now but they nearly severed the bluetooth microphone wire.

For reasons that defy logic, they removed the cubby box - probably just to make manouvering the fascia into place easier. I had the sub-woofer and iPod connection cables neatly run underneath it but they didn't seem to notice or care! All cables were pulled out the side so they were just lying on the floor beside the passenger's seat?!? They didn't even pop the screw covers back in - honestly! Not big things but just another annoying hour of my Saturday spent fixing mindless little stuff-ups that should never have occurred .

Anyway, that's my whinge over for now.

Well, it doesn't sound like things went missing from your vehicle which was lucky. I had several things leave mine.

But yes, they are very scrappy at their workmanship.

I am looking at leasing a new 130 April next year, hopefully LR can get all these problems sorted. Anybody had troubles with their diffs or gearboxes?

That's not good!
Although I have a mate who went berzerk at a car cleaner once because he was convinced they had nicked his digital camera. Weeks later he noticed it sitting on top of our TV - we had a party and it was left behind but we had no idea whose it was. We figured the owner would chase it up and just left it sitting there in case they stopped by and noticed it.

No problems with the gearbox or diffs so far (touch wood). But then again we haven't done any serious towing or extreme off-roading. The only problems have been Air Con and now the common rail system - neither of which have caused any downtime. Most of the other issues have been actually caused by the dealer in the course of "fixing" things.

I thought I'd resurrect this thread rather than start another...

Since I am in a rip bloody mood this afternoon for some reason I thought I might vent my latest frustration here.

Had the Defender serviced last week and mentioned a new leak that was occurring somewhere along the top of the front passenger's door. They found the leak and replaced not only the rubber door seal, but the window channel as well. Apparently it was messed up somehow.

I also asked them to re-tighten the driver's door latch. These two exercises required them to remove and replace both door trims - a job I am not willing to undertake myself since the trim clips seem to be made from glass and shatter when you look at them.

Upon getting the car back, both front doors had rattles and clunks in them when being shut or driving over bumps. The driver's door seemed to have a few trim clips not in place so the bottom of the trim panel flapped around. No worries, I sent the wife in to get these minor things seen to.

Well... upon getting in the car this afternoon after she got back from the dealer, I noticed that not only was the passenger's door still clunking when going over bumps, but the little wind deflector lug on the A pillar was loose and bent out of position. This is actually not such an easy thing to simply push back in as the metal tab it's mounted on sits under the window channel.

Why don't the guys out the back notice these things?
Do they not test the doors by opening and closing them a few times to ensure everything is in place and properly done up???
Is it not pretty bloody obvious when replacing a door trim to tell if all of the clips aren't attached????
Is it not easy to spot something like a dangly wind deflector when it is right next to the piece you have just replaced????

If I wasn't having such a flaming average afternoon then I would probably be a bit more easygoing about this latest lack of attention to detail but, alas I'm just feeling generally a bit too ****ed-off and the thought of yet another trip across town to wait while it is re-re-fixed just ****s me.
