    Angry Ham-fisted workmen!!!

I finally got my Defender back this afternoon after two and a half weeks getting the Air Conditioning fixed.... again - and you're not going to believe what they've done (no, actually you probably will believe it). After my last experience I stressed the need to be careful removeing and re-inserting the stereo head unit when they dis-assembled the dash. Last time they manlged the sub-woofer connector trying to force it back into the cradle.

This time they have scratched the centre console fascia to buggery getting it in and out. I promptly showed this mess to the guy at reception and he explained that they probably didn't have the right tool to remove the unit. DIDN'T HAVE THE RIGHT TOOL??? Every aftermarket stereo unit in the universe uses the same tool - two pieces of flat metal - to unclip them from the cradle and pull out.

Not only that, but the whole centre fascia is not even re-assembled correctly. The top part hasn't clipped back in properly and is sticking out. They have also broken one of the clips on the stereo surround so I'll have to track down another one of them too. You would think that working on a brand new car the required level of care and finish quality would be easy to work out. There's no question of "that scratch was there when we got it" - IT'S BLOODY NEW!

Anyway, now it will have to go back for a THIRD time to get this seen to. In typical warranty repair fashion they will replace the WHOLE centre console fsacia since it is one piece (I wonder how many switches they will break in that exercise?). I plan to remove the radio myself before I give it to them. I only hope they don't go and lose all the wires down the back. At least the Air Conditioning is now working - but we'll see how long that lasts (took two months last time). I don't expect to find out until October however.

Well, at least I have this place to get things off my chest - If not I would be tempted to firebomb the place.

I take it as its a new defender that this work is being done in a Land Rover main dealer, if so that is an absolute disgrace.

It is indeed. I just can't believe that this kind of work even gets out the door. If I didn't miss the Defender so much I would have just gotten back in the loan car (Freelander2) and left it with them. The Freelander was a nice holiday, but I feel like I have to learn to drive all over again.

nowyou all know why i stay away from the dealers . after 3 new td5 discos over the last few years i could wright a book about their stuffups.

if u read the fine print in the service manual it goes something like this.....if u are not happy with the repair within 7 days the dealer will pick it up & fix it ...they did this a few times for me saved a lot of stuffing around

bottom line is i dont thing they can get good tradesman

    cheers paul

This is probably their way of trying to discourage you from pursing anymore of your, or should I say their issues.

Do they give you attitude when you are there? Or is their face to face dealings OK

I do like the idea of someone with ham for fists though, could be handy.
