    The Shire

I grew up in Gymea Bay in the 70,s and it was a great place back then. Worked on the door of most of the Shire night clubs in the 80,s and 90,s and noticed the place and the land prices changing. I hope its still as nice as it used to be for you. We moved to Tweed heads which is what the shire was like 20 years ago.

There used to be some great tracks around Engadine, ''Needles'' swimming hole track etc, but it must all be houses by now I'd say.

Carman's, somethings you want to remember, some you'd prefer to forget. Funny place with some interesting and expensive times.

good point, you went to carmens too eh! ah memories

as a workmate of mine once said you are only a visitor if you weren't born and grew up in the shire, welll i was born and grew up at maroubra, visited! the shire for 12 years, sold up and moved north.bought a property the size of a suburb, thats a good reason.actually the part of Menai where i lived would fit in one of my paddocks.
too much husstle and bustle now and carmens is gone!

Welcome to the Shire. I grew up at Loftus, in the bush, when there was only one road in/out. Moved back after 30 years, not so much a deliberate move (my wife got work here and I work in Wollongong, which is simply down the freeway) but really enjoying it. Kids have a lot of choices - sport, community groups etc - and if the family's happy, I'm happy. My younger working life was in country NSW (used to be a teacher) which I loved, but this is where the family is happy. Royal National Park is not far, beaches are not far, lots of sports fields, city and airport is not far; it'll do me.

    Cheers,

    Gordon
Oh, if you see a white Td5 Defender, plates MOG049, give a wave - it'll either be me, or if it has P plates, my son, probably going to or from the surf.

    Welcome...

Welcome to the area. I used to live in Janalli, just up from that servo. I'm at Waterfall now (if the Shire is God's country, Waterfall is his secret hideaway ). I can't say much about local trails as I haven't had a 4x4 for several years, although that's changing Saturday.

If you're into woodworking there's a Triton owner's club and Wood turning club in Oyster bay.

One more thing while I'm here. Can anyone in this area recommend a good Landy mechanic, especially one that can do the injection pump tweak / tune up I've been reading about in this forum?

    Cheers,
    Andy
