Without knowing the service history or price it is hard to say.
But if the price is right the things are built to outlast civilisation so it may be worth while, just be prepared to do some work on it.
I have been offered a 1996 defender, it looks very good, but should i be concerned with 260,00 on the clock???

Offered as a gift? Offered for sale?
Not uncommon to have head issues at around this age. Not necessarily, but worth finding out how well it has been kept.
Defenders tend to be cheap until they get expensive.
Get a really thorough inspection done by a LR specialist, or take into account possibly very expensive repairs.
130 that have been driven over hard roads can get chassis cracks around the back.
Not uncommon, too, for high Km Defenders to be chugging along with no troubles at all. I think the bottom line is, that if it's been well taken care of it is likely to be fine, if it's been thrashed and neglected it is going to be a problem.
My '96 130 is one of the latter - previous owner - and I have been paying for it ever since.
Cheers

I sold my 2001 TD5 Dual Cab for $20kToo cheap I think, although it had done 267,000 kilometres. It also had a powerchip fitted and was an awesome piece of kit.
The new owner was happy with it
