For what I've heard, it was closed last year and dozed and now is a seasonal closure. The video is the last time that I did that track.

If those "roads" have been trenched down and chewed up by 4WD people to that state, then no wonder the National Parks and State Forest people are trying to keep us out! Were those videos made in a National Park or State Forest, or are they gazetted and public "roads".
The tracks in both videos are gazetted public roads in State Forests, it is all you are allowed to drive on legally on public land. The one in the first video was eroded when I first did it over 10 years ago. Also, there is another gazetted road only a couple of hundred meters away that runs parallel to this one, which was graded last year.
The muddy one in the second video is do to "Land Management" practices, as most of the interesting tracks in this area close to Melbourne have been closed, which meant that this track was over used. I heard of people queuing for over an hour just to start it, as there was nothing else of interest near by to do! This track was graded last year and is now a seasonal closure, with the volume of traffic using it, I actually agree with it, as it was deteriorating way too fast. If you look on the Outerlimits forum, you will see that no one posts track names so that they don't get too well known like this one did, and end up like this one did, if that makes sense.
Yeah mate, shortcut 1. Sounds like the hard part - there are 2 or 3 trees standing between the hard part and the bypass if thats the place, and he was in the hard part up against the trees in the middle - looked a bit grand canyonish!! Guessing he was coming down by the look of the damage.....
I can understand why we Tasweigians have to be the luckiest in Oz when it comes to 4wd tracks and close proximity. I can choose 4 or so tracks that are close to home (get there in about 30min). Some tracks are really challenging too.
Ohh, I shouldnt let the secret out really
And thats another sweet vid there too ;)
stooge,
And that's just the Midlands Hwy:p
